Why do ds650's have no resale
They may be advertising them in SoCal for $5K but I guarantee you they are not selling them for that. Why would you pay that for used when brand new is $4199??? With some factory warranty. That's why all of these DS's with aftermarket mods don't sell. The mods are only worth something to whoever put them on. Power adders do much better off of the bike than they do bolted on. More often than not you will get more for a bone stock used DS than you will for a highly modded one. The perception is less wear and tear...
Speaking of which, I am trying to get rid of an 04 KFX right now. If you're interested please PM me. It's gotta go so I'm very motivated to make it disappear.

Why do ds650's have no resale
Well I know a buy who works at the local Can-Am shop, he has a DS650 and a Renegade800 .......
He has told me the early year DS650s, the bigger ones, do not sell very well at all, new or used. He said the later years, the more refined ones seems to sell a little better. Even though he said the changes were kind of small it seems that people see the early DS as a much bigger and more scary machine. He said they won't give anyone much for a used one because he has a hard time moving them.....
On another front, since they are discontinued and were not overly popular when they were new, people may fear that getting parts in the future will be tough. So they may shy away from them too for that reason....
If you add those two things up, along with the numerous new big bore machines out there, I could see why the DS650 might not be worth as much to the masses......... however, there will always be DS650 lovers out there who will be more then happy to pay fair market value for one.... and perhaps even more since they will now go down in history as a rare and powerful machine..... they most certainly will be a collectors item in the future.....

Yep, an 06 that will go for $2K or less. Or just sit in the garage and collect dust for two more years and then he'll get around $1400 for it.
Had a guy offer me up his 03 for $1200 that had the same issue as the one that WLD OTZ picked up for $1400. Told him how easy the DS is to work on, especially from the base gasket up, and he recinded his offer. Got into it and found out he was in way over his head. Now he wants me to fork over $500 for it with the top end in pieces. I'll work him down some now since he made me wait, and I have to put it back together! I'll probably still give him the $500, hell, the rolling chassis is almost worth that, but now I have to reassemble the top end and figure what the malfunction is. I'll post how it goes.
