Had outlander 800 in water and mud with 30 mudzillas and feel the belt slipping, need help
#1
I have a 05 outlander 800 with clutch kit and I now just added the mudzillas 30". It seems good in the dry with positive belt engagement but when I head into a deep water and mud hole it seems to be slipping, engine revs but no real good tire spin. After coming out of the water I checked the drain plug I adapted for the belt case and it was dry. Do they make a stronger spring? or belt? or could it be a little water getting in? Are there any mods for the air intake for the belt case?
Sorry about all the questions.
When it is not in the water it pulls hard.

If it slips while in low range or when you just get out of the water then a little water is getting in the belt housing. My friends new Outlander 500 did that, not enough water stop him or see drain out but enough to cause slipping. It did not last long because the water evaporated quick in the housing.
Turned out to be a bad seal in the housing ,alls good now.
No way a dry belt can slip while in low range no matter what tires you put on.

Same thing happened with my 06 Outty 800. There is a replacement kit to reseal your belt compartment. I still had to pay the $50 deductible, but it was covered under warranty. Still don't know why this wasn't considered a recall, since obviously there was a manufacturer design problem but oh well, the problem went away.
Do this soon, as water seems to cause the belt to dry rot and reduce its lifespan.

I ride with a few outties. They are all getting snorkels for them. The problem is the intake for the cvt is behind the front fender. Water gets right in. The cvt exhaust is pretty low to. If you check out canamtalk.com the forum there has all kinds of info and pictures on snorkeling.
