Default oil change choices

I am looking for input on oil chages without driving to dealer. I dont like spending twenty dollars on a half quart of oil for gearbox (and that is two ounces short for a change)I believe I can use other oils, but I am looking for others that have experience using other oils & what types of oils were used. . Also, is there an aftermarket oil flter i can purchase from auto parts store also???? thanks in advance for all responces, Todd

if you're talking about the cvt fluid, brp uses chaincase oil. i've found synthetics in a 16 oz. bottle at my local parts store for around $6. some people prefer amsoil, i think it's overpriced. if you're having trouble finding some, check with shops that deal with snowmobiles, they also use chaincase oil.
