are you sure your old cdi was bad? and not something else. get a manual to test electrical parts, also the first thing , would be to check the wiring for shorts, did you check the two fuses under the seat? also check the switch on the handle bars.
i doubt both coils would go bad at the same time. the fuses are under the seat attached to the subframe. try this first, if it runs look over the wireing harness for shorts, or excessive rubbing, to prevent future prob's.

Sometimes, everything can be VERY finicky without a 100% charged battery. My Ds (Big Gun CDI) will not start if my battery is not 100%, so I charge it up before I get it out of the garage if it has been longer than a week or 2.
Also, search the forums for cleaning (polishing) the ground points and do that, too. It sounds more like a grounding issue, but top off the battery at the same time.

yea the old cdi box was bad, shorted out inside the actual box itself and melted thru the rubber.
we traced that out by putting a bigger fuse in for the 25 amper, and found that the cdi box was bad, replaced the cdi box and replaced the fuse with a new one.
both fuses are good now
it cranks over just fine, battery isnt fully charged tho, the lights work fine, just the tach wont reset, which puzzles me, spark plugs arent getting any spark, plus they were wet, (we did give it a little gas while trying to start it)
im trying to sell the bike and i had the guy and his friend that were interested in it stop by and we couldnt figure it out.
all the connections under the dash look good nice and tight, cdi clicks on when you turn the key to on, so i dont know what the heck is going on, its kinda pissing me off lol
im gonna charge the battery up and check it again

i'm not an expert on the bomb , but on most bikes the tach runs off the coil.
either the coil is losing ground or shorting out at the ground or maybe the cdi did
damage both coils . look at the wires. if you have a service manual section 5
will help you test it.

after thinking a bit, since the cdi went , double check the wires from the cdi plug to
the coils, look for a hump in the wire ect. also the grounds , i would add another ground to the frame, also check the handle bar switch. and i do doubt both coils are bad but it won't hurt to rule it out, more than likly ground related . un plug the handle bar switch try it, no spark, run a jumper across the plug, try it ,no spark, switch is good. look elsewhere. maybe your pickup coil/stator is bad. and not sending to the cdi/coil? electrical gremlins are the worst. i have a manual if you need to know how to test anything, let me know.
