Both are 4x4 and include high and low gearing. The 800 is quite a bit more powerful than the 500. I've ridden the 500 and it has plenty of speed and gets there pretty quickly. Can't speak for the 800. I've read a lot of reviews and the 500 tends to get better reviews on handling as the 800 has a tendency to plow in corners. The 800 also tends to lighten the front end and make it more difficult to steer from what I've read. Don't know the top speeds.

There is a VERY large difference in the power between the two, I am not sure on top speed on the 500 but the 800 will do anywhere between 75 to 78 MPH on top end.
The only difference between the 800 and 500 renegade is the bore and stroke of the engine, everything else is the same.

My neighbor has both.....his wife rides the 500 and he rides the 800...... he has said that the 800 is way to fast for its chassis.....it does not handle as well as it goes in a straight line.... He said he actually prefers his wife's 500 because the 800 is so much work to ride.

There are a few differences between the 4 Outlanders. The 400 has 9.3" of ground clearance, the 500 has 11" and both the 650 and 800 have 12". The 400 and 500 both have MacPherson struts up front while the 650 and 800 have Double A-arm front suspension. 500+ have DESS security system. All 4 have ViskoLok front differentials, but the XT models for 2010 on the 500+ have the new ViskoLok QE which locks up instantly when there is slippage vs. a couple wheel spins on the regular ViskoLok. LxWxH are the same on all 4 machines: 86x46x45. The 400 and 500 have 25" tires while the 650 and 800 have 26" tires (probably whats making the GC 12") Pretty much every other aspect of the machines is the same.

Horsepower is as follows:

400 - 32 HP
500 - 40.4 HP
650 - 60 HP
800 - 71 HP

Top speeds:

800 Top Speed = 90s
650 Top Speed = Mid 80s
500 Top Speed = Mid 70s
400 Top Speed = 70

Your tops speeds are way off. I have an 800 and the computer shuts it down around 78 MPH, the 650 is the same but takes a little more getting there, mine is an 06 but they have not made any changes to the clutching on them and the clutches limit the top speed. The 400 I had was an earlier model that was carburated (They are now fuel injected) and top speed on it was right about 60MPH. I have never ran a 500 to top speed.

The 500 make 40hp the 800 make 70hp and god knows how much more ft/lb of torque as well.

Just use your imagination after that.
