Oil compatablility
#1
I am looking to change my oil, but my dealer in town shut down and the closest to me is about 4 hrs away, is there an oil that I can use available at auto stores or another dealer I could use? Places I have in town are, Auto Zone, Schucks, Napa, Carquest, A Yamaha Dealer, and Walmart, Thank you for your time,

Thank you for your quick response. I don't know the inner workings, or why you have to have a specific oil for atv's, but can someone who rides a Can-Am or Bomb verify that it would be more than sufficient. Only reason I ask is when reading some other posts, I see someone say to use one thing and then others tell them otherwise. As you all know they are an expensive toy and would hate to ruin it.

All ATV's use basically the same oil and as long as it is JASO rated it will work. The reason being for JASO is to be wet clutch compatible as most trannys and engine are allin the same case.

I picked up the Valvoline you had in the picture, I also saw Royal Purple Sybthetic oil there for $15 a quart, will that stuff work as well? It didn't have the JASO rating but said it was wet clutch compatable.

You don't have to worry about 'wet clutch' compatable with the Can Am as they don't use a wet clutch. I use Royal Purple 5w30 and have good results. I have also used Mobil one synthetic and have no problems. I think it is more imprtant to get the right viscosity for the temps you are riding in and don't mix syn with dino oil.
