i just bought a 2001 650 ds and i went riding and about 1 hour into riding my battery went dead and the battery is good but if i ride for a while even when my battery is dead my ds starts to pop and backfire then i just shut it off and charge the battery back up and go riding for about a hour and it starts to do it again WTF is the problemthanks for any help

 

Well sounds like you have some major electrical issues going on. The system is not producing any power so you bike is running purley on the juice from the battery. When the battery starts to get too low it doesnt have enough power to give the CDI to keep it running hence the pop spit spudder till the recharge. You need to get the magneto or what ever the heck its called that powers the bike a check, sounds like it needs replacing.

 

When the battery doesn't charge, its usually the regulator/rectifier assembly... If you live close to me, I have an extra one that you can try.
