So I see quite a few have visited this thread, maybe I need to expand on my question. I have a 2000 DS650 that I haven't been able to ride for the last couple years. The other day I tried to start it and shockingly the battery was dead, bought a new battery and fully charged it. Started right up and I drove it around for about 5 minutes when it died, battery dead! Diagnosis starts, key on ignition switch to off and both green and red lights come on, switch ignition switch to run and they both go off. After searching the threads I jumped the ground from the battery to the engine mount and was able to get the lights to come on and the engine turn over. Need to know what to do next, any help is greatly appreciated.

The engine should be grounded through the mounts... Check your negative battery cable and make sure the connection to the frame is clean.. Make sure the motor mount bolts are clean and tight, and your engine should be grounded..

Thanks, that was it, the star washer at the frame was broken and causing a ground short. Now it will turn over but won't start, could the short have caused damage to one of the electric components? If so, how do I go about testing to see?

Did you check to make sure lack of spark, is why it isn't starting?

Justme thanks for your help, no spark, no voltage at coils, disconnected the CDI and have 12.5 volts going to it. Sounds like it is the CDI, anyway to verify this? Also, if it is the CDI, where is the best place to get a replacement. Thanks again for all your help.

I wouldn't buy a CDI quite yet... Let me take a look at the wiring diagram...

No green and white wire, only black and white going to the coils, that wire is putting out roughly 4 volts max as the engine is turned over.
