Bombardier ds 650 Sprag Bearing
#1
I am looking at a 2000 ds 650 that the owner says needs a new sprag bearing. Other than that it is supposed to be in good shape. He is asking 1100 for it. Would this be a good buy, is it easy to fix?

It's about $200 in parts. Not really hard if you have a flywheel puller and are mechanically inclined.
If thats all thats wrong, and you do the work yourself, than thats a pretty good deal.

Sprag clutch. If it's already apart then it'll be real easy. You have a keyway that can't be misaligned and as long as the key is in the groove your timing is set. Assuming that you cams are aligned properly.
If you have to pull the flywheel for the first time it is a mother. I'd suggest having a torch handy. The gorilla snot that Can Am uses for the flywheel is Grade A stuff.

It is my understanding that it is all apart and the sprag clutch is out. The guys son took it apart and decided he didn't want to spend the money on the new part last fall. How do I know if the cams are in the right spots?

While at top dead center the lines on the cam gears will be pointing towards one another and the cam lobes will be facing outboard, intake to the rear, exhaust to the front.
Was the flywheel spinning backwards or what? What led them to believe the clutch went bad?
