A friend I ride with has a DS650 with a bad electrical problem and is not sure where to look for or trouble shoot the culprit. He has replaced the battery with 3 new ones in the last 2 weeks. In a very short time the new battery will be down and will not hold a charge. Can pull start it but will not charge the battery. The starter seems to be ok. I suspect the diodes in the alternator (if it has diodes) are bad and letting it bleed back and drains the battery in short order. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Does he have the service manual? It gives the various test procedures for the charging system - voltage regulator/rectifier, stator, and trigger coil. You at least need a volt meter and maybe an inductive ammeter. Is he in Richardson?

Raptorrider2001, tell your friend to unhook the positve battery cable and touch one end of a test light to the cable end and the other end to the battery positve terminal and see if the light lights up. If it does this means you have a current draw. To find the draw you just simply unplug one connector at a time till the light goes out and bingo you found the culprit! Remember to make sure the ignition key is off while you do this! Hope that helps, LATER!
