Since this device relies on the cellular telephone/data network couldn't a thief just use a simple cellular jammer (about the same cost as a pair of bolt cutters from sears) to disable the device so he could locate and dispose of the tracking device at his leisure? Dump it on the nearest train or semi or take a hammer to it.
Thieves are beginning to utilize such devices when stealing cars now so that onstar can't track them.
Also out of curiosity, under what circumstances would you be compelled to release the tracking data to anyone other than the client? I didn't see anything in the Terms and Conditions but I didn't have time to read it through it thoroughly.

It does not only use cell phone signal it also uses satellites so it would still work with the jammer. If they used a jammer it would only stop the device from sending you a text message telling you were it is, but you would still be able to locate it online. The only people we would be able to release info to is anyone you put on your account. You can set the device up to were up to 10 people can rec, the notifications.

Thanks for the reply. A couple of followups if I may.
So it would be using GPS to track itself but it wouldn't be able to send out that information since its means of communication, the cellular system, was being jammed locally. That is to say, it would know where it was but it would be unable to relay that information until the jamming ceased. Am I correct?
As for releasing the tracking info, if DHS or a LE agency via the court subpoenas the information you would be compelled to release any stored tracking data and to use the installed equipment to actively track the subscriber with your equipment at government request would you not? (Title 18 United states code section 3120, 2701 and thereabouts). Furthermore you wouldn't be permitted to notify the subscriber that you've been served a subpoena or ex parte surveillance order by the court would you? This is how it works with services like onstar so I wonder if it wouldn't work that way with your device as well.
