The Custom X pipe sounds like an ideal pipe in all aspects except one. For myself, and many other riders it is simply too loud. If it wasn't for being 120db, I'd probably buy one.
Pros of the Custom X:
1. No one has ever complained about any workmanship. (Or anything else for that matter.)
2. The performance gains are good.
3. The price isn't bad.
4. It has good reviews from as mentioned 3rd party websites.
Cons:
1. 120db is just so damn loud you'ed have enviro ****'s from 100's of miles away running and screaming that the riding areas need to be closed because of these noisy machines. Heck, they already do that, I'd rather have fun without giving them any fuel.
Resolution(For me): buy a different pipe that has a good combination of power/sound. Or if the Mfr of the Custom X pipe creates a quiet version or quiet core or something to get that pipe down to about 95 or less db without totally loosing all power.

Custom X now manufacture a modified version of their Custom X pipe it has an extra gain of 2hp and is rated at 90db I beleive that it is now their standard pipe. You can contact Peter at Custom X at pvanlo@q-net.net.au. They have always made a quiet core for their original pipes.

Blackhawk
The new pipe by Custom X has a gain of 2hp on their original pipe and a gain of 7hp over stock, the dyno results were gained on a stock 2000 ds with the only changes being the pipe. Peter explained to me the new pipe has an extra chamber and some other internal mods to both get that extra hp and to bring down the noise.

Thanks for the information, I'm going to fire off an e-mail this evening and see whats cooking. The pipe looks good and I think I might try to polish it. The fact it took only 15 minutes to install during the review is also a plus. You've been running yours for some time now - is there any discoloration or any other topics I would bring up in discussion with Peter?
I think it's safe to say you would both recommend this pipe to other people, I'm looking forward to the possibility of joining that crowd.
