Default Why Silver/Gray Color in Rear Diff Oil?

Does anyone know if Can Am or others use some type of special break in oil or additive in their rear "differentials". Folks change gearbox and rear drive oils as a preventative measure and are shocked when this silver colored oil drains out. Subsequent rear drive oil changes don't have the "silvery" look.

I read on the internet that motorcycle enthusiasts, Jeep enthusiasts and pickup enthusiasts are reporting the same situation from time to time.

Maybe some ATV Connection members have experienced the same thing and know what it is.

I did see some Polaris RZR owners experienced this silver oil phenomena. I don't believe this is a Can Am issue, but more of a general technical discussion involving all brands of ATVs.

Maybe someone on ATV Connections has changed their rear drive oil and seen "silver paint" flow out of the drain plug.

hydrex: I plan on spending the dollars for an oil analysis if I find "silver or gray" gear oil in the rear drive of my new Outlander. Gee that seems like a lot of metal contamination "in suspension" as it drains out of the rear drive. It's just hard to imagine how that happens.
