Default Need Help

I have a 2005 John Deere Buck 650 4x4 and I'm reading that it's the same engine as the Quest. My bike's solenoid went out about 6 months ago and I just got around to changing it out. When I got it started I noticed there was an oil leak accompanied by a knocking noise. I fixed the oil sensor that was leaking but the knocking noise is still there. When I changed the oil I did notice metal shavings in the oil and on the oil filter. Any idea on what this could be or what I could be looking at to get it fixed? Any help is appreciated.

Doesn't sound good by your description...oil sending units can leak oil out quickly and if you were riding and got low on oil and didn't notice ...yuck...if its a deep knock it could be a crank bearing,if its not so heavy but still quite noticeable it could be a wrist pin at the top of conrod...You should have someone in the know listen to it before you ride it any more...Jmo...Good luck

Thanks, the noise seems to be coming from the top end of the engine. Hopefully it is that, I have never torn down an atv engine but I think I can handle it. Seems like the rod bearing would be easier to change than the case

Yes if you get it quickly and not to many filings in oil you may be ok. good luck.
