3 burning questions...
#1
I have 3 totally unrelated questions. If anyone can answer any of them I would really appreciate it.
1) Is there an aftermarket grab bar which will extend past the end of a Woods pipe?
2) How long do most machine's fans stay on for? I was at Sand Mt. this past weekend and the fan would stay on anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes after each 10-20 minute ride. It was about 85-95 degrees.
3) Unless you have had this noise, the following probably won't make much sense. I have a noise which seems to come from the left side of the engine. Unfortunately, it only happens when I'm riding so I can't duplicate it sitting in the garage. It's a rattling like something is loose, and it gets louder as I accelerate. If I maintain a constant speed it subsides somewhat but is still noticeable, and if I decelerate it disappears. I don't know if this is a normal DS noise (it doesn't seem like it) but I kind of remember my first DS making the same sort of noise. It is bugging the SH*T out of me listening to it. I had a girl on the back this past weekend and the noise was louder. Any ideas would be a huge help.

I'll answer question #3. Your chain is too loose. Think about this,1. makes noise only when your moving, 2. made more noise with a passenger on the back. Its you chain roller making that noise because you chain needs to be tightned. Follow the instructions in the manual and on the swingarm for proper adjustment.

Question 1.
Any 6 pack rack sound do it, and they look sweet.
Question 2.
My fan seemed to stay on a lot this weekend, but riding in 115 degree weather didn't help. in 90-ish weather it came on a bit as well, I would imagine this is normal, just make sure if the red light comes on and stays on to not run the ATV until you figure out what is wrong.
Question 3.
I've got the same noise I believe. On my ATV it's one of the springs holding the exhaust pipe together, though since mine doesn't make as much noise, it doesn't bother me enough to fix it yet. I was thinking of putting a high temp piece of rubber between the spring and pipe.. not sure how well that will work.

Check your chain roller. It has the same exact problem I had w/mine. Your chain is too lose, and your roller probably melted off completely. The chain then rubs on the cross member underneth.(the noise you probably hear.) The cause of this problem is your fat *** is too heavy for the suspension settings, making the roller spin constantly. My *** was too heavy. Turn the preload up (it's actually "down" I guess) on the rear shock a couple of turns, it needs to to be stiffened up. Adjust your other suspension settings accordingly. Then just make sure chain is set at the right tension. If you have any more questions,(the fan is themostat controlled, it turns off when it's cool enough) stand on your seat of your 4-wheeler, cup your hands around your mouth to make a funnel, and start yelling "DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW HOW TO READ AN OWNERS MANUAL?"

First of all, it's NOT the chain. The chain roller is perfectly fine. I adjusted it before I left to 3/4", and when I got the quad I did the preload. With me being 250 lbs, any more preload and the top spring just becomes a spacer because all spring is maxed out of it. I'm thinking it might be the other little things like the a-arm shims or the pipe springs. I was also wondering about the fan because I just wanted to make sure that was normal. My cooling system seems to circulate fine, but 5 minutes compared to my buddy's raptor which would kick on for about 30 seconds every other ride seemed like a big difference. Not to be ungrateful, but if people are going to be dicks then keep your ideas to yourself. I don't post this stuff to wasted my time or yours. I've been riding bikes for years, and I know my way around a shop manual.

wrecked, I find that as long as I keep moving my fan usualy dosent come on, then when I stop and idel it will come on, I didn't time it but it sounds about right to me, did you check PRM Products? I was thinking there Desert grab bar might stick out that far http://prm-atv.com My riding buddy built a six pack rack that also carries a ventless gallon gas can, he tucked it in tight but I'm sure it would protect your pipe, email me and I'll email you a photo, they look good

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a dick. Check the things everyone else has suggested, if it still makes the noise, check you axle housing. The reverse threaded nut on the left side might have backed of enough for the axle to move side to side, and pretty soon your rear end might explode. Mine did, the same time I was trying to figure out what the noise was. It's easy to fix as long as no damage has been done to the housing, bearings, seals etc....
Losen the clamping bolt. (that "pinches" the nut so it's stays in place) Then just tighten the nut, then the clamping bolt. Make sure it real tight- but be careful, as i recall the big nut is aluminum and easy to strip if made too tight.
I'm sure your a great rider, and fairly decent mechanic when pointed in the right direction. Didn't mean to bruise your ego- But I thought the owners manual thing was pretty funny.
