I am not trying to cause alarm but I just thought that I would inform every one on my incidents with the stock shocks. Initialy I figured that my problems were caused by excessive jumping and hard landings but as I will explain I have come to believe that these malfunctions have happened by no fault of my own. I reciently bent a piston due to the left shock "locking out" this occured due to the retaining fixture inside of the shock coming off and allowing the shock to extend out of the body. I figured that Sh#! happens and I would just buy a new shock and be done with it.
Well 190 bucks later (OUCH) and one ride I found that the retaining fixture on the other shock had done the same thing. This time I was lucky and it occured while I was just riding along in the dunes. I got home and took off the shock and the piston pulled right out of the body!! Needless to say buy this time I was pissed I had lost 2 weekends of riding and 190 bucks on a shock that I don't really trust anymore. I took the shock to the dealer and they are looking into waranty replacement for it. When they took a look at it they couldn't believe what they were looking at. The look on their faces was pricless it was like what the hell happened to that!!!
Well I am done with the stock shocks and it is time to take the advice that I was previecly given and buy some works shocks. I hope that my experiance was a isolated incident but I just thought that I would relay the info. The shocks that were on my DS ended with a 00W somthing. Well good luck.

Same thing happened to me also. On the last day of my warranty.

Sounds to me like thay should be issuing a safety recal on these shocks.

Ya know this is interesting(&bad). But I have always wondered if "limiter" straps have ever been used atv's.I do alot of jumping with my 2000 DS & my 250R.So I wonder if this damages & shortens life of shock. I used to have a 4x4 & did alot of jumping with it.There are those who suggested using "limiter" straps on 4x4's that do alot jumping in order to keep the shock from being fully extending & damaging it,so would this be a good idea for an atv
Hope you have better luck with "Works",they work well on my 250R.I'll keep an eye on the stock DS shocks. '

The same thing happened to me about a month ago. I brought it to the dealer and they repaired it under warranty. Then the next time I went riding, the other side did the same thing. So I got it fixed again, but this time as a spare. I Ordered some works steelers with remote reserviors, they came in today and so far they look good. I am going riding this week at the track so I will let you know how they work. All I can say is the stock shocks suck, VERY POOR DESIGN!!!!!!!

Well I an fed up with the stock shocks as well they are crap in my opinion. I took off the other side and the rebound is way high it is very hard to pull the piston out and it seems that they would load up real easy. I never really noticed it while riding but now that I will be getting "works" I will have a standard to compair to. I should be getting them about two weeks but until then the beast will sleep. I talked to my dealer and they are sending the shock back for some reps to look at it so maybe somthing good will come out of this and no one will have to experiance the frustration that we have. Good luck with the new shocks and let me know how they perform.

DSaholic please let us know what Bombardier has to say about these shocks, question to all who have had problems like this with your DS, how long did you have it before you had this problem?

When the right side bent it was about four months old, then the left side bent two weeks later. I only have about 20-25 hours on the bike, half on trails and the other half on tracks, it jumps great right up until the shock craps out. I am going riding at a track wed so ill write back and let you know how the works steelers perform.

Well I have had the DS for about 1 year but the riding season last year was real short due to lack of riding buddies. This year is better and I would say that I have about 30 - 35 hours on the DS total. So it seams that jerfin00 and myself have about the same time frame to compair to. I also had one go out and then the other within two weeks. I will keep every one informed about what bombardier says or maybe it is arvin I am not sure who my dealer is dealing with but neither the less I will keep ya posted.
