Chain Roller
#6
My chain roller died a miserable death this weekend and I replaced it with a skateboard wheel. The guy at the skateboard shop was perplexed as to what I was doing, and when I told him I needed 4 bearings for it instead of two he was like "That wont make it roll any faster.." I told him it was for speed anyhow. Then he asked what I was using this for but I'm not sure it made any sense to him. He only charged me $5 for the 'blank' wheel, and gave me some used bearings for free. I wanted to get this cool clear-red wheel but they only wanted to sell them in sets of four - so I made due with a plain black one. Total cost OTD: $5.40 including tax. That is probably about what the TM Designworks model would cost in shipping alone.

I got a TM roller from Alba. Thanks for the help!
To race my DS on flat track, I took out the red spring on the rear shock. I had to cut down the spacer between the two springs so it was flat on one side to locate the top of the big spring. I set the ride height with the preload adjusters.
Up front, I installed Progressive Suspension 17.5 inch shocks, part number 13-1242B, and 85/170 springs, number 13-1333B. On the right (outside) shock, I replaced the short spring with a spacer to stiffen it up, and kept the left spring stock.
I still have the stock tires, with 3-4 lbs in the left side, 5 lbs right front, 6 lbs left rear.
The track is Competition Park in San Jacinto, CA, a 1/4 mile oval with long straights and tight corners, loose decomposed granite surface. I wouldn't want to try the stock tires on a blue groove. Track is open for practice Wednesday Nights. Next race is August 18, call 858-277-1591 for more info.
