HP numbers..........
#1
I read on the bombardier site that the stock hp for the baja ds is 48hp. Is this realistic or not. If not what are some numbers you guys are seeing at a dyno.
Does anyone have any dyno plots of stock DS's and modified DS's.
If so can you post them or direct me to someplace that has these on a site.
Thanks for any help

YEP!Bombarbier's dynoes 48 at the back wheeles, and I think 52 at the crank,BUT"keep in mind, not all dynoes are the same.Things like temp, humidty, altitude, can change numbers. But in stock form the DS puts out plenty of ponies and has plenty more potential.

I have heard the 48HP figure for the non-baja and for the F650. I think it is at the crank. I have seen several dyno runs of stock DS650's and piped ds650's and they are all less than 45HP.
There is a 2000 DS650 dyno run here: http://www.mobiledyno.com/sys-tmpl/dynoruns/

http://www.ctracing.com/ds6501.htm also has a dyno chart
Are you visiting the www.bombardierds650.com forum also? FYI - this site is temporarily down, but the forums are active at forums

Well ran the dyno last tonight,It took forever to get strapped down (kept wanting to surge off the dyno)After 45 min we managed to keep it on the machine. The shop was a kart shop so this was the first quad he had ever ran and also my first experience with the dyno.He seemed to have problem getting the program set up too. Well the first run came out at 57 hp 2nd 56hp 3rd at 55hp all runs stopped making power and dropped off at 4200 rpms................seemed real strange,Is this right did he have the dyno setup correctly?Well time was running out(because of noise restrictions)he can only run the dyno between 4:30 & 6:00 pm.So I did a couple of runs and hit the NOS(sounded awesome)But the dyno showed only 47 hp with power dropping of at 4200rpms again(same result each time)I didn't have time to mess with any of the jetting, also ran into the 9500 rpm range each time. Checked the plugs they looked fine,
Believe me this is puzzling, I didn't change any of the jets(my jetting has been working great for Sand Mtn 4000' elev)
The dyno was at about 350' elev.I also had 2 different plugs (by mistake a DR8EA & DR9EA)don't know if this matters but the DR9EA looked the best and the DR8EA looked a little rich.
He had the ignition pick up clamped to the outside plug wire(DR8EA)
I don’t think the tires were slipping(maybe when shifting or under quick acceleration)We used 5 tie-downs on the rear(2 on the swing arm) and 3 on the front.
On another strange note I raced my buddy’s DS(with the Ron Woods stage 2) in front of my shop (on the street)when I got back from the dyno, the races were closer then the should have been. At sand mountain we are not even close (he was running pretty dangerously lean though) We had brought his to the dyno too but didn't have time to put his on.
I hope I just have a jetting problem and the dyno was not set-up correctly. My DS does not feel like it has any problems seems to pull thru the power band fine, although it seems it should have pulled better against my buddy’s DS(like at sand Mtn)We both had the same gearing and 20" rear tires in the test race.
If it wasn’t for my test race against the other DS I would have swore the dyno #s were wrong(but now I don't know).I hope I haven't done any damage to something to cause this outcome. The thing with the power (dyno numbers) dropping off after 4200 RPM's doesn't seem right at all though.
I know of a dyno in Carson City I might try, they are also at the same elevation I normally ride.
On the NOS I ran a 16 N20 and 20 gas in each fogger, still need play with the jets I guess.
I have talked to Knutz he gets close to 70hp(I have seen the dyno sheets)on his 760,when we raced at Sand Mtn I smoked him up comp hill(sorry Don)

What did the torque curve look like, this might tell you more. Could the clutch have been slipping? Did you hear the RPMs suddenly jump during the pull, indicating tires or clutch slipping? What gear was used for the pulls? When you rode the DS after the pulls, did you feel a drop off of power after 4200 RPM? How much of a drop off in power was there at 7000, 8000, 9000 RPM? On the dyno, did the acceleration slow down after reaching 4200 RPM, meaning it started taking longer for the RPMs to continue going up?
My dyno runs have not always gone smoothly either.

Well I just found out the shop that ran my dyno had the ignition pickup set at 360 degrees(twostroke)instead of 720 degrees(fourstroke)this explains the drop in power at the lower rpms.Means this would double my rpm reading so power really dropped at 8400/8500rpms,Still waiting for them to fax the dyno results (had a problem printing the results when I was there) The toque curve looked good. Not sure what this mistake will do to my final results,if good at all now.

Any dyno actually measures torque and uses calculations based on the torque to figure HP. The formula is (torque)X(RPM)/5200[actually 5250 or something close to that]. Jeff is going to get me the info from his goofed up charts and I'll work out an estimate from that for him. I'm anxious to see what it is also.
