I am posting this here, because I have heard some in this forum talk about these dunes.

I have seen the blm website and it looks like dumont is about 35 miles north of Baker California. Coming from vegas, would you take highway 15 and then turn off at baker onto 127 (I think that was the number).

How long does it take from vegas?

Are these dunes worth a days drive to come see?

What are the average temps during winter months?

Do many people visit this area?

Any info you guys can provide. From my calcs it looks like it should be about 10 hours from my house and about an 8 hour drive from my buddy in ogden utah.

Would it be worth that drive, or would it be better to just go on to glamis. I used to ride glamis, when I lived in pheonix and have never been to dumont.

You have your directions correct. Dumont is about 2 hours from Vegas. I think these dunes are about the next best thing to Glamis[although I haven't been to Glamis]. I hear the Dumont dunes are taller and steeper, but Glamis is larger. I'm guessing Dumont would be the second largest dune riding area around. I don't look at the temps when there, so I can't really give you any numbers, but riding is comfortable during the day all winter long, but rather cool at night. Bring a moderate jacket for night riding.

Dumont is a "must visit". As Knutz says, the dunes are tall and steep and make for some great riding though you dont want to go after May and before November due to the heat. It gets crowded on the big weekends but you can easly ride the dunes without worrying about other riders. The off weekends are better, with much fewer people, the dunes stay smoother makeing for better riding. Hell, when I lived in Colorado I drove down every Thanksgiving and stayed for a week, always had a blast. Its worth the drive. You can also find some deals on quads while there, or on the way there.
I'm not sure of your proximity to Denver but I'm sure you can find a DS Baja there. (I read your other threads) Good luck
