Should I get a DS?
#12
Thanks for all the replys. I guess I should have told you a little about my style of riding and size. I am 6' and weigh about 220, so I think fit wise the DS would be a good bike. I almost feel like the raptor is a little small,I do like how it sits up high though. I ride mostly on open trails (desert mountains, not woods) and at the sand dunes (Glamis in CA and Little Sahara in UT)As a result being able to fit in tight spaces is not an issue. My two main goals are performance and reliability. My Raptor is dang fast but the reliability is just not there.
I have also heard of water getting in the front lights on the DS and making the light short, has anyone else noticed this?
P.S. I have never ridden a Bombardier so I guess I need to get down to my dealer and try it out.

They way I would do it is meet one of the fine gentlmen on this forum, in the dunes or something and go riding for a day and have fun. Then switch bike's with one of them for an hour or so and get a good feel for the machine. You should know then if the DS is for you. Good luck.

UT660,
Where in utah do you live? I live up here in wyoming, but have friends in utah and come down pretty often.
I love to ride little sahara, it is by far my favorite. I might be coming down to LS over pres weekend, if the weather is a little warmer. I was down in Jan and it was nice.
I will be down again in march and most likely for memorial weekend. I have a raptor and a ds and the raptor has become the wifes bike now. It is nice and fast, but just not as good as the DS. After riding the DS, I could not go back. It is a much nicer ride and feel then the raptor.
If you are heading down to LS over pres weekend let me know, and you could check out the baja.

I live in Lehi, UT. Will probably be going down to LS over Pres. Day. That is if I don't sell my Raptor first;-) I probably won't sell it before then though. That would be cool. I have been wondering about the difference between a Baja and the standard DS. Do you think it is worth the $? Also, did you get yours in WY or UT? If UT, where?

UT660,
I have some cousins that live in lehi. I bought my Baja in UT, I could not find anyone in the state of wyoming that had one in stock. I bought mine the second week that they were in showrooms. I bought mine at ADS motorsports in ogden. I found the best price of $6900 at ADS. White knuckle motorsports down in springville actually gave me that price first, but I got ADS to match it. My good freind lives in ogden and it was much closer to buy there.
They may be making better deals now, but I don't know. They also gave me half price on a set of paddles also. They over price them to begin with, but I still got a set of haulers 20x10x10 8 paddles on douglas .160 rims for like $150. It was a pretty good deal to me.
If I were in the market, I would play as many dealers against each other until I got the deal I wanted. If you go down over pres weekend let me know. If I go, I will probably get down there about 11 A.M. on Saturday and I am not sure where I will park at yet. I am thinking maybe over by jericho, but I want my wife to see sand mountain also.

Don't feel bad about the change, I traded a buddy of mine for a 2002 DS. I once was also a Yamaha owner. I had a '99 Banshee tricked out. Now I feel that was the best decision I have ever made. I LOVE my DS and will NEVER go back.

BadBombardier650, fourlix is right about the tires. I had the same problem with the stock Kendas as all DS owners have I believe. Try the Maxis Razers or Holeshots with the 23 fronts and 22 rears it'll be a different bike. I love my DS even with the FEW MINOR problems it has and I stress MINOR. I beat up on Rappys on a regular basis with the same mods.

. I bought Turf Tamers. They are great tires. When racing I about have to about sit on the tank in 1st & 2nd. It lifts the front end that good now with these tires.
