wshrdskin,

I have raced these two bikes many times. Never with my wife on it, she is kind of new to atv's and I tend to err on the cautious side. Anyway, my buddy is a little lighter than me (50lbs) and we raced them about a dozen times when the baja was brand new.

The raptor had the mods listed and the baja was stock. The raptor would almost always take the holeshot and about half way through second the baja would catch up and start to pull away. This happened pretty much every race, except a couple where I would let off, because I was getting roosted by my own raptor. Anyway the raptor runs very good with the mods, but the baja was right with it most all races in stock form.

We have not raced them with the mods to the baja yet. I can tell you that the baja feels faster. We will probably do some racing on the 23rd of march or there abouts, my buddy lives a few hours away. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear, but the ds is a fast bike and even though they weigh in a little heavier, they have more power to make up for it.

Hope that answers your questions and I am not biased towards either bike, I own them both and enjoy both of them.

Bat

14mins, thanks for the plug, The reason I don't advertise these things is that I don't have any Dyno-sheets to show anybody that their as good as a slip-on. But if someone reads a thread and ask me about the endcap I will tell them what I think. And to ask the guys that have them now and also guys like yourself that has seen it perform. I don't make ANY money off of these things so I don't really push'em. I will say that the Slip-ons are lighter, and that alone is worth the money to some poeple.

P.S. if I payed you commission I'd be going in the hole.LOL, Besides you would just use that money on some more HP for that Raptor.(he he)

Thanks Bat,

I haven't had the pleasure of dragging with a Baja yet. Ive raced several DS and have beat them all before and after my mods. When i say beat, i'm talking off the line and maintain 1-3 bike lengths throughout the drag depending on the other rider. My brother has a 2001 DS with R series WB slip on , K&N filter and jet kit. I beat him every time (he's a better rider) I do feel that when he replaces his CDI box those days will probably be over. The Bomb CDI is set way to low IMO. Late.

wshrdskin,
That cdi on the ds has got to go anytime you do any mods. As soon as I jetted and changed the exhaust, I was bouncing off the limiter. No way you can win a drag when hitting the rev limiter. I then changed the rev limiter and put the k&N on the carb and this thing pulls hard now. It really woke the DS up. I know that the raptors and DS are pretty equal in most drags. Now, after my piston, cams and carb upgrade the rappys will have a hard time keeping up.

Oh, tell your bro that he needs better tires and that will help the holeshot issue.

im going with the 46mm lectron carb and was wandering if there was much of a difference between a carb mounted filter vs a k&n w/out lid, power wise? i know this carb will work because my dealer runs it and all he does is race.btw,he's also on the bomb web site,Richards Recreational Specialties in Kevil,Ky.270-462-2528.he's also giving Greg Row advice on setting his ds up for flat track and tt.is this cool or what?

Bat, In a way I am glad that your new stuff wont be on yet when we go to LS. I really want to run them and see how well they do against each other in the sand. I think the sand tires should be pretty equal so it would be a good comparo of pipes. I wonder if I will need o jet up to a 175 for there?

A full system is definitely going to give more flow than a slip-on. All you have to do is look at the stock headpipe - way too many un-necesary bends in headpipes and midpipe.

My RWR pipe has headpipes that provide a contiuous curve around the front of the motor, going into a mid pipe that is straight all the way to the massive megaphone. The stock pipe has a little curve, then a straight section, then another curve, just to get around the motor. Then the midpipe has several little curves before reaching the tail. The Woods pipe also lets you keep your stock heat sheild, and it even sits back a little farther out of the way.

Whatever pipe you get, I suggest looking for these characteristics because they are what really make the difference in air flow. you can't get air in any faster than you can get it out.

AZSAND - tell me more of this "tire hitting", I'm unfamiliar. How can it hit a tire? I'm looking at mine, and I can't see how. It never has either.
