Welcome, The first thing I would do is get rid of the sock you have put on your DS..It probley doesnt add that much power... I can only guess that is what you mean by ("Sock for now&quot....lol j/k
Exhaust and jetting.. Are the first things to do to pick up some power on your DS.. Another good thing to do as soon as you buy your DS is to ditch the stock Kenda Dominators tires.. I would go with the stock BAja or 400ex tires. Thats what I have. As far as the exhaust and jetting. You can buy a full exhaust for around 400-500 dollars. A slip-on exhaust for around 200 dollars or buy a modified end cap for the stock muffler from (BiggerisBetter) for 30 bucks. The modified end caps havent been dyno tested or anything but the seat of the pants dyno says they make about the same difference as a slip on exhaust. As for jetting you can buy a K&N power kit for around 100 bucks for the DS. It comes with all the jets, different needles, a K&N filter, and instructions..I think Dyno-jet also makes a jet kit. not sure on thier pricing. But those are the basics..

One cheap way to pick up some HP is to put hose clamps around the stock air tube. The rubber is too soft and will collapse and cut off air flow. I pick up an extra gear on some of the hill’s I climb with this mod.

hose clamps huh? Like water clamp types? How many did you put on? My CDI is stock. Will it help if I'm only revving the motor to factory specs?

i'm kind of new at this stuff, so is the air tube the tube from the air box to the carburator or the tew tubes from the front of the bike to the air box, and also where do you put the clamps on the air tube

One of my buds has a DS650 and he did this Hose Clamp "MOD" and it isn't a factor in performance.

As the Piston travels down there is not enough vacuum created to cause the collapse of that tube. Air and Fuel are pushed into the cylinder by atmospheric pressure more so than by suction.

To test this, start your engine without the air filter. Place your hand over the intake and the tube will not collapse.

Stick with proven mods by reputable companies and don’t sweat the small stuff.
