I have a 01 ds650 with a few mild mods: K&N Air Filter, Jetted The Carb (180), FMF Slip On Pipe, Team Alba's Ignition Box and running a 43 tooth rear sprocket. I go riding with a group of friends, and in this group there are 2 Raptors and a Banshee. One of the Raptors have some mild mods done to it, the other is bone stock. However the Banshee is the problem, he has done some wild mods to it and it flys, all he will say that is done with it is that the milled the head to give it some more compression and full exhaust. We run mostly at Little Sahara dunes and trails. When we line up to drag i have no problem outrunning the Raptors but the Banshee gets me in the top end. Leaving the line I get a holeshot and can stay out front for about 100 yards then the banshee will slowly pull around me. By the time we finish he has a bike lenght lead on me. What can i do to help out the top end, i dont want to bore the motor out but im not scared to load in a new piston, cams, or milling the head, but i dont know what will help the most or if i need to think of something else to try
thanks for any help you can give

First off by removing the stock 40 tooth rear you lowered your gearing. If you want more top end, put on a 37 rear or a 17 front and your 40 rear back on. This won't hurt your take offs and it'll give you some more topend. Around here (OHIO), Radials are the only way to go for traction. I gained a hugh jump on takeoffs because of these. I have the same mods as you, radials & 37 rear will take that shee!

Beaten650, I have two brothers that have Shee's simular to your friends. I have a modded endcap(equal to slip-on)jetkit,and KN carbmount. Everything else is stock, and it comes down to the holeshot. If I get the holeshot I will win everytime, But if I get a bike length down off the start, I can't run them down. I would definately try putting your stock rear sprocket back on, You should still be able to take off in Second gear.GOOD LUCK!!!

P.S. don't forget to tie an Orange ribbon just below your flag!(ATVconnection Riders)

beaten650....sounds like your running about the same set up as me! Im running a 15 tooth sprocket up front and a 43 tooth rear and 22" haulers. If this is the same set up your running you are probly kicking butt up on the hill. Leave your gearing the same and add a set of cams to help your top end by being able to catch another gear.....like fourth right?

i was running the 15/43 combo on the sprockets when i had the stock ignition box on and i was running out of gears so i went back to the 16 in front, that seemed to help not to hit the rev limiters as much. im running 20" hauler.

When your paddles wear out try the 22" 10 paddle with the 15 up front and 43 rear. This combo will really launch you out of the hole even better! Im in the process to up grade..high comp piston, cams, carb.

You need a total of 110 links for the 15/43 set up.
