I am going to pismo 4th of july weekend and need some sand tires. I just picked up some douglas red label wheels 10x6 & 10x9 and want to get some sand tires and am not sure of the sizes. I was going to get the Kenda geckos 21x11x10 for rear but am not sure on the front. 21x7x10 or 22x8x10 dune runners? any help would be great.

People I know with geckos don't like them after all - don't have the fast spinning donut capability of the vee, nor the striaght traction of the hauler. This is what I'm told...
The front tire choice may depend on the rear choice.
Look up old tire threads, there are many with many answers.

I am running stock gearing. Everywhere I call says the gecko is the best all around tire out there, that is why they sold out so quick. As far as size they only make a 21" rear, but I need to decide on a 21x7x10 or 22x8x10 for the front.

I got a set of these, front and rear, Maxxis Roosters... in the v's. I really like them . Tough as heck, and hooked up very well. I haven't heard of anyone trying the straight paddles, but they are a very good quality tire.

For a high HP quad the best tire is the 22x11x10 Extreme haulers. The DS & Raptor just spin the others too much. I've got 8 paddle Extremes & they hook good! I like the 21x7x10 Mowhaks on the front. The wider fronts seem to float more the thinner ones will dig in & get a better bite.

For pismo a hauler is not needed any v paddle seems to work fine there......But at any tall dunes/or fluffy sand, I recomend the Haulers.
And get a 22' tall for the front, you wont regret it!
A 21" front will reduce your caster, even more with taller rears

Thanks for all the info. I am going to look into the haulers. How many paddles do you guys recommend.

I have to say, in my opinion, the gearing depends on the tire, and the tire depends on the terrain, riding style, and HP. If all you want to do is carve up bowls, and play on vertical walls with dime spinning ability, then vees are it - if you wanna hillshoot and drag then straights are it. There is no best of both worlds, which is what the Gecko attempts. I run haulers, and you can spin them, just not as effortlessly and sharply as vees - I run vees on other bikes, but like draggin the DS too much to sacrifice.

The problem I've heard about the Geckos is that they are narrower than any other, and dig holes much easier. Everywhere you call is a salesman that wants to sell - they typically don't even ride. I'm not saying the Gecko isn't a good tire, its just not the best tire for the DS. Then again, a friend of mine didn't like them on his warrior either.

Haulers are the way to go. I would not buy any other tire myself.

I think I would go 22". But I have a lot of fun with my 20's. As for number of paddles I think 8 or 9 would be the best number. 10 I think is too much unless you have a lot of power.

As for fronts, I think that is personal preference. I have some dune runner fronts for my raptor and dont really care for them. I think if I were buying fronts for the ds, I would look at smooth buffs.

I have not bought any fronts for the ds yet, but am still trying to decide. I run with the nobbies on the front and never have a problem. They dont float as good of course, but can get me pretty much anywhere I want to be.
