How Bad is Bad???

I am trying to decide which quad to buy. I HAD narrowed it down to either a Baja DS or a Z, but now I am hearing rumors of a possible big v-twin from Kawasaki/Suzuki. My main question is, how many quad-links will a stock Baja DS out-run a stock Z in 300ft. of sand, dirt, pavement with equally "experienced" riders. Not "It will spank it's hiney, or it's not even a race, but how many links?" I am not in that big of a hurry to buy, 6 to 9 months, maybe sooner. I keep hearing alot of great stuff about the Z, but I know the DS is one AWESOME machine!
Thanks for any and all advice!!! I am trying to decide which quad to buy. I HAD narrowed it down to either a Baja DS or a Z, but now I am hearing rumors of a possible big v-twin from Kawasaki/Suzuki. Yeah I agree with 14, I would think in that short of distance any of the quads would be neck and neck. I have raced my baja against my raptor, and my friends 400ex and from the start they are pretty close, but the longer the race the more the ds and raptor pull away from the 400.
I went and checked out the z and it is a nice machine, but felt small like a blaster or something to me. But coming from the ds everything feels small and weak
If you sit on both, I think you will see which fits you better. The 400 class machines just feel small to me. And the raptor is still on the small side to me. But the baja is just right.

14mins & Batoutahell,
Thanks for your in-put! What is the average length of sand drags, or does that just depend on the type of race ( flat/hillclimb, straight flat, etc.)?
DuneJammer,
Sorry for the mistake. "Quad-lengths". Now, how about your in-put on my question.
Later guys,

To be honest, I dont really know what the average length race is.
Most every time I race, it is up a long steep hill. At little sahara utah, it is sand mtn and it is about 700 feet or so.
I am not really a racer though. I like to shoot the hills sometimes, but mostly I like to play. I am just too big of a guy to do any good at the races. But it is fun sometimes to line them up. I guess most times in a flat race with friends, I go up through about 3rd gear and then back off and then they usually keep going and pass me so they can say they won.
If I were shopping, I would try and ride both bikes, and go out to some local riding areas and ask people with those machines what their thought are and then weed out all the bs, because everyone prefers the bike they have of course.
I like the z, and may end up getting one to replace the raptor, if that is what the wife wants.
But for me I much prefer the ds.

Thanks Batoutahell. About how much do you weigh, if you don't mind me asking, and do you feel the need for reverse?

When I was at Sand Mtn, NV, There a few Z400's there but I wanted to run one bad. I never saw one even line up. A few of the others said they saw them run and did well against the 400EX but not as well against the big bores. I dont now exact lengths, sorry. Keep in mind though, torque is a major factor in hill shooting and for that, THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT! Flat drags though is a little different. The light weight is a very nice thing as you can ride longer with less fatigue, and yes reverse would be sweet, but I never hardly even think about it now. my .03 worth, starting a bank hehehe
