Suspension setup for Drags
#1
My son and I went to our first drags with DS.
Where we drag has a clay based soil with lots of traction.
We crushed the rear suspension with a tiedown and still had trouble keeping the front end down.
Has anyone modified their suspension by replacing shocks with solid bars?

i have mine lowered pretty low ....banshee shocks on the front, and the stock rear adjusted with no preload on the spring, it works pretty good like that for drag racing. we will see how good this sat at 14mins place

The front struts will help keep the front end down. If you want to get serious add a wheelie bar.
Here's what I did,

i am running struts on the front and back with a wheelie bar. i have been running it in 1/8 at the local dragstrip. sometimes it unloads the back tires when the wheelie bar hits hard. if you build one make sure you you give the bike enough travel so it don't unload.

dsmike what do you mean give the bike enough travel so it doesn't unload? I am having this same problem and didn't know how to fix it. I am going to try to get more weight transfer by raising the wheel off the ground a little more and maybe lower the tire presure in it. I guess what I don't understand is the travel with struts. By the way I have a wheelie and struts all the way around. This weekend will be my first try at the drags.

what i mean by travel is to let the front end come up far enought o plant the weight on the rear tires. right now i only have about 5 to 6 inches. with slicks on pavement the still unload.

I built a wheelie bar that has a spring on it. I keps the back wheels from unloading. The one on my web site on my lt500 is the same kind that I have on my DS. Sorry no new pictures of my DS. Ill get some new ones and up date my page.
Thanks

Thanks dsmike that is what I thought you were talking about. I don't think I am that high off the ground, I will be tuning it Sat.
Moose I'll let you know. I will be changing back and forth between shocks and struts, wheelie bar and not, and different heights on it to know what helps me most. I am hoping for a 5.2.
TheBom when I first made the wheelie bar I was thinking about using a spring but that actual would take a little time to compress. If I could get this one adjusted right to keep traction in the rear I think that it would be faster without the spring. If I can't get it right then I try it out to see how it works.
How much better are Pro Wedges, on dirt, than regular knobbies?
