Well I'm heading out to the garage as soon as I am done writing this, to paint my hubs black. I will give details on the looks and my thoughts as soon as the finished product is done. Also while going through my paint supply, I came across a can of stuff that I am still deciding whether or not to use instead of regular spray paint. It's Rubberized coating for the underbodies of cars. I began to think and I believe this would be great, because it is anti-rust, waterproof and very tough and would give a neat, rough appearance in my humble opinion. Anyways give me your thoughts on the paint and I just might decide to do them in the rubberized paint.

DO NOT rubberize! that stuff likes like crap when it dries and dulls. That DS is not a utility you know.

Paint them Shiny Black with a couple a coats a clear coat, Then polish your wheels to a mirror finish.

P.S. I hope I caught you in time!

I think that you should paint them pink with red polka dots. Make sure to hold the nozzle really close and get plenty of those great looking runs & blobs in the finish. I'm just kidding of course. Try to post some pics of them when you are finished. BTW what are you cleaning the hubs with before painting?

Sooner, I will try and get my friends digital camera tomorrow or tonight and will get some pictures up of them. I just used a wire brush to get the grime off and some water and towels. It looks awesome, tomorrow, I believe I will tackle the job of the rear caliper and the piecce that crosses through the frame on my nerf bars, because it is getting a little rusty looking. I encourage everyone to do this simple task, because the looks definitely make it worth while. Also rather that taking the rear hubs off, save yourslef time and sweat, by just taking a paper towel and wrapping it around the axle and paint them with them still on the axle. Also I was looking and I was wondering if anyone has tackled the task of painting the rear rotor carrier and sprocket carrier?

How did you mask off the rest of the front end? Like the spindl, A-arms, lug bolts and such? I have been thinking about doing it, Did you primer first?

No I did not use primer first, I just used Satin Black, Krylon Engine enamel. I have a friend who paints for a living and he said don't bother with primer. Also on the front end, I took the hubs off, because it is much easier that doing all the taping. Just take a nut off and 2 bolts out.

Since you're painting already just do what I did and paint the rear brake caliper black too, it looks a lot better than the dull gray.

When you have a chance put up some pics.

I have been toying with the idea of doing some painting on my bike. I am thinking a house of kolor orange candy would look really cool on the baja. I can buy the paints and materials pretty cheap and I used to be a pro painter, so that is not a problem.

Your friend most likely told you not to bother with primer, because on a quad the paint will take some abuse and will most likely not last forever anyway. As long as the rust is gone I dont see any problem with that either.

Primer is really there for two reasons, as a rust barrier and as an adhesion promoter.

On a quad the paint will take so much abuse that neither is really that important, unless it is a show bike.
