Thinking about getting a DS
#1
I have some questions about the DS, because im getting a quad in december.
Is it good in the forest?
Trails?
Snow?
Dirt?
Is it reliable?
Im 200lbs and 5'8, should I get a 400ex or a DS650?
What does a DS sound like?
Can it run with 250cc dirtbikes?
Does it handle like a tank?
Feel like a tank?
Is it powerful?
Whats the bottom/mid/top end like?
Top speed?
Is the suspention:
smooth/soft
hard/doesnt bottom
How does it handle jumps?

Wow, a lot of questions there.
first my opinions. I love the ds, it is the most comfortable quad to ride in my opinion. I love the power, it is smooth and always there.
I would buy another if I needed a good stable, reliable ride.
your questions:
Forest- dont know personally, I am a duner. But I have heard they do good as long as the trails are not too narrow.
Trails- I guess same as above. Open fire roads I love it. It gets going quick and can run very fast.
Snow- I would guess it does as good as any other quads. If the snow is really powder type stuff, it might sink easier due to the weight.
Dirt, great fun in the dirt. Does great.
Very reliable, no problems yet.
I would say size and weight go for the ds. Sit on both and see what feels the most comfortable.
Stock, quite, pipe loud as hell
I dont ride with 250 dirtbikes, but I hear that they are fast. I would guess that they might run away from any quad.
Handling is great. I can turn on it better than the raptor. It feels light to me. except when I get stuck and have to un bury it.
Very powerful, more than the raptor and much more than the 400.
After piping and jetting the ds, the power is smooth from bottom to top.
Top speed, no idea. It is fast though and i have read like 77mph.
suspension is great. ask dsaholic, he jumps his pretty high and far.
Hope that helps

Shop around, you can get one hella a good deal at many dealerships right now on the DS. I don't know why but the dealers are cutting the price way down. I was quoted $4800 and OTD on a DS before I bought my new Z.

Holy Chit! i thought i got an awsome deal @ $5695 OTD!
As for you questions, top speed enough to make you a little nervous, tight trails suck, open pits and fireroads are FUN, reliability, imho top 3 of all quads manufactuered. Jumps fine just gotta get used to it, turns/slides better than anything i've ridden so far. $hitty things- wieght,no reverse rotax is a high vibrating engine which sems to fatigue people out a little quicker

Half my riding is woods trails - width is not that big of a deal. Its 5" wider than most quads - if other quads are barely squeezing between trees then the extra 5" won't let you through. Most trails have more than 5" to spare down here where I'm at. Most guys wish their bike was wider, and make it so if they can afford it.
Heavy?? Workout. Better yet, let the bike give you a workout if you get stuck or something - you'll live longer and be healthier.
No reverse?? Why is everybody so concerned about riding around backwards?
Smoothest, plushest factory suspension in existance.
Jumps great - just different.
Get used to the bike and you'll hate riding anything else afterwards. Just take the time to dial in all of the sofisticated adjustments for your rider weight and style before you pass judgement - this bike can accomidate anybody.

Thanks everybody for answering all my Q's.
How often do you have to adjust the chain? I ride everyday
How long will it take to get used to the power of it? Im coming from a 97kx80 with mods.
I was jumping my friends 99 bigbear 2x4 a couple days ago and its like 540lbs so i would be right at home on the 500lbs DS.
I might go for the very cheaper used 99 400EX if i can find one.
Are theyre any more cons?
