Well...since you asked...heres my .02

Cams alone will raise your peak RPM while adding a little more HP. Problem is, they will raise the point where the power comes on also. For example, if you looked at any HP chart and the power curve of a stock engine starts to build at 2000 rpm and tops out at 7000 RPM the cams will make the power start at 3000 rpm and top at 8000 rpm.
Higher compression raises torque which helps bring the start of the power curve back down while raising peak HP as well. It makes the line on the power curve more verticle.
As I learned early on with hot rod projects, a matched package is the key making usable HP and turning that usable HP into speed.

My opinion? save your money and do it right the first time.

I don't think you would be very wise to buy internal engine parts used. Most if not everything inside of an engine is a 'wearable' part, meaning it will wear out. Spending the time and money to tear apart the engine, only to install parts with a shorter life (meaning you’d have to go through all of that work... AGAIN SOON!) is just not good.

External parts that don't have as much wear from use are fine to be bought used but anything internal, I would stay away from it.

If you don't want to spend the big bucks all at once, do this. Get an empty coffee can, cut a hole in the top. Whenever you have a few extra bucks or want to throw in a $20, just dump any spare cash you've got in the jar. Now this is your bank account for the DS engine mods. Check it once a month, and when you've got enough in there to do some work - save it a little longer. Once you start working on the inside of the engine, costs are going to come up that you probably didn't expect and you don't want to be stuck with a disassembled engine and no extra cash to put it back together.

P.S. On the coffee can thing, I felt I HAD to specify 'empty' just in case a Raptor owner read this post and tried to stuff money into a coffee can full of grinds - sort of a buried treasure/dinosaur kinda thing! (Just kidding guys!)

Lots of truth on what he said!
- power curve will shift to the right
- compression definitely helps torque
- MATCHED PACKAGE is KEY
