Is there a major difference in the air flow between the K&N and Uni? Would switching from one to the other change jetting?

Ok **** on K&N go with UNI....they flow the same and UNI traps more dirt than K&N and the K&N is a B!tch to clean compared to UNI.

I have used both foam and paper/gauze filters in the past. UNI, TWIN-AIR, K&N, DURA-BLUE, etc. I have to say that I prefer the foam filters to the paper/gauze filters. Not because they work better, but because I could not tell a performance difference, they ARE easier to clean in my opinion, I HAVE heard that they trap more dirt, and are HALF the price. That's not to say that I wouldn't accept a K&N if somebody gave it to me, but you can buy two foam filters for the price of one K&N filter, and that's cool to me. Just my $.02

Thanks for the replies, I already bought a Uni but I haven't put it on yet. I wanted better filtration without a loss in air flow. I guess I'll keep the K&N for a backup.

Does anyone have the part number of the uni filter? I like to have several filters on hand, so extras are a good thing. Also, have any of you seen the prefilter that Uni makes for the K&N? They made it for the 250R specifically, but since the filter is almost the exact same size as the DS650 it fits perfectly over the DS filter. This seems like it gives a person the best of both worlds. Unfortunatly, I don't have the P/N for it. I'll see if I can find it if Uni has a website.

Nevermind the Uni p/n I found it: NU-9101ST (stock filter replacement.) It lists for about $28. Since the price of these things seems to be fixed (must be nice!) that is probably what you'll pay.

I've never used a pre-filter with my setup without a lid, never ever had a problem. It isn't a bad idea, you can never be too safe, but it's not required.

I just started using UNI filters. I talked to the owner of our local race shop who also wins all of our local races. He said the K&N does flow a little bit more air but the UNI offers more protection and still flows significantly more air than any stock filter. So for the price of one K&N I bought two UNIs and swap them out for cleaning.
