Hoping you DS guys can help. I'm trying to run a HighLifter Tach on my Z400 (I know, I know - but I need to know my RPM's when you guys go sailin buy) Anyway - does the DS use Digital Ignition? If so, do you guys have an existing tach trigger already or is there an adapter that you use to run the factory tach? (assuming it's for CDI) Highlifer is still looking up digital ignition in the dictionary -so they are no help - Autometer (maker of the HighLifter tach) says no way. I can't believe I'm the first shmo to try and add a tach to a Suzuki..but it looks like it ;(

The DS ignition is CDI.
The tach signal comes directly from the coil wire - its teed right in to it.
The DS tachs are made by Autometer.
Hope this helps.

thanks - that's what I suspected. Nobody knows if a "car" signal adapter will work (convert to 12v square wave). My only option is to buy a $370 aftermarket ignition with tach signal built in...

you can use an inductive tach such as: http://www.teamcalamari.com/dox/prod2.html

they might sell a 14,000rpm version instead of 18,000rpm.

it will not respond as fast as a tach triggered from the coil.

there are digital cheap tachs that are inductive, but I prefer analog when monitoring a fast changing signal since digital updates the display very slow.
