New guy with some questions
#1
I just got a 2000 model DS and took it out for the first time yesterday. I love it. I can't wait to get to Waynoka. By the sounds of it, this was the weekend to be there in the fall. I'll make it to Snake Hunt.
Now to the questions:
Where do you find the VIN?
Who makes a good chain roller? It was totally gone on mine when I got it. One of my roommates dug up an old rollerblade wheel but I don't think it'll last long.
Also, does anybody know of a dealer in Kansas?
Thanks in advance.

That part about the VIN and title is what I was afraid of. Now I have some homework to do. Would the police be the place to go to find out if this quad has a history or a dealer or is there even anything that can be done without a VIN? (besides take it back to the guy that sold it to me- I did create some paperwork in case something like this were to happen)

The local police can check the SVS ( Stolen Vehicle System ) as a curtsey for you. But my guess is that they will want to do a vin verification, they are going to want to see the quad and the see the (vin) numbers for them selves. It is better to do it now, because if it does come back stolen you can point the finger at the bad guy and you will be cleared. If you wait and some how down the road you are detained and the quad comes back stolen your going for a free ride to the gray bar motel with some new shinny bracelets. Then you will be fighting to keep your truck and trailer or how ever you haul your quad. Good luck.

Isn't there some secret location where the vin is located as well? Also, the engine has it's own s/n and it seems you could use that to see what the vin is of the machine it first was installed in. As I recall, the VIN is also supposed to be somewhere on the steering stem holder part of the chassis (that is a very technical term, don't be fooled!)

I went and talked to a guy at the local Yamaha dealer and he said it's common for sport quads to be sold without paperwork in Kansas. However, the missing VIN has me concerned. I'll have to look for that number on the steering stem. I know the engine case numbers are present- that's the number I used to identify it on the Bill of Sale I wrote up. How could I go about finding out the original VIN from the case number? Does Bombardier keep track of that stuff? Is that public information? I'd like to keep this quad if I can establish a legitimate history, but it's not looking good right now.
