Ok first Im about 950ft above sea level, Im running a Pro-Circuit Slip-On, K&N Airfilter, Drilled Holes in my airbox, & am running a DJ170 Jet from the Dynojet kit.

My question is when I look at my plugs the tip is like a tannish color, and the threads are black, and it back-fires when it starts & is very hard to start.

I think my jetting is wrong, but Im not exactly an expert on this kind of stuff...It has excellent throttle response & no flatspots at all in the powerband. Any suggestions?

Also Im considering going Carb-Mounted, would I have to buy a different filter? Is there an UNI filter that will mount to the stock carb? Do you think I would have to rejet?

Also if my jettings not the reason for the hard starting, what else should I look into?

Thanks for the help.

Take a look here DS jetting/mod info... and compare your machine with the others. I think you are running way to lean. I would suggest using the dynojet stage 3 instructions. I run a dynojet 190 main ,needle clip on 3rd notch with k&n in air box without the lid(snorkels removed). I ride around 500 to 1500 ft or so. Air/fuel screw out about 3 turns. With the carb mount filter I would try a 195 maybe even larger and needle clip on 3rd notch. Anyway just some things to try.

Thanks Buttfungus.

I think Im gonna go with the 190 & run lidless & Remove the snorkels.

My question to you is what did u plug the snorkel holes with & were did you route the crankcase breather too?

Am I the only one that has trouble with the K&N Filter? Its just to messy. Am I doing something wrong? Everytime I clean it I get Oil everywhere.

Thanx again.

My holes are open, but I think some of the guys plug them with pvc pipe cap 1 1/4inch I think. I'm running a k&n crankcase filter on the crankcase hose (k&n part #62-1010) about 17 or 18 bucks. I like the k&n's. I use k&n the precharger kit. Spray on the cleaner rinse with water, dry and spray on a light even coat of oil.

What did u do just zip tie the breather to the frame or something? I usually have a good amount of oil comming out of that thing. Do u run a filter wrap also?

Thanks once again.

Yep, used zip tie on the right side of the frame. I run the crankcase filter as is, no wrap or outerwear. I use outerwear on the air box filter.
