Default How hard to rebuild?

I was thinking, How hard would it be for me to put my high-comp piston, rings, clips, pin, Base gasket, & head gasket in. How Long does it take, what tools would I need, & how would I go about breaking the new topend in? Any tips?

Thanks

it's really not that hard and it will probably take you a weekend (casually working). you will need piston ring compressor, valve spring compressor (special), torque wrench and some common tools. break-in procedure is listed on my website. have fun

Can anybody give me step-by-step instructions from start-to-finish? Glamisds650, I read throught ur explanation but it seems like it geared more towards 4-stroke in general.

Any help will be appreciated.

kodiak, It really is geared towards four strokes, they should all be broken in the same. as far as piston and cams go, if you are comfortable in adjusting and changing the shims in the head you should have no trouble. like i said though. the valve spring compressor is a special type(although you can make your own).

the most time involved is removing the head and jug from the engine, or removing the complete engine if you go that route. the assembly after that is straight forward. just take your time and torque items to spec in the right torque sequence, ie- the head.

Does the whole engine have to come out, or can I just remove the head? And how would I go about doing that? I already have the Tank off. I cant get the bolts for the header pipes off, what would be a good way to get them off.

Thanks

the nuts on the header studs are the only thing you have to remove(if the nuts are rusted, make sure you use some solvent), not the studs themselves. the engine at least has to be cocked forward to remove the head. so the front engine bolts, head stay bolts and the starter have to be removed.

p.s. its a tight fit on that motor, so take you time and just start unbolting things that are in the way. sorry not much help.

Ok thanks again. But what tools did you use to get the bottom nuts off? I have the top ones, but I cant get to the bottom-ones to well.

Also I cant get the Radiator Hoses to come off my engine, any tips?

the hose clamps, come off with the help of channel locks just turn a little. what bolts couldn't you get to? seems the set of craftsman sockets and a few other thing is all it took to take my engine apart. the motor didn't have to come out.
