Modified end cap
#1
Ok.......I'm interested in modifying my end cap. Can anyone tell me how to do it properly, what exactly do I need to do, and is it worth it compared to a slip on ( yoshi ) ? Do I need to take anything out of the muffler body ( such as the steel wool, or the inner cylinder ) ? I have a K&N jet kit on the bike, a Ron Woods cdi box, and also a 14 tooth front sprocket. Thanks.

There is two ways you can go with this....
First off you can use the stock endcap and just cut everything off on the inside of it. There is some mesh screen, and then two round tubes, make sure to not cut the tubes all the way off, leave a little bit there.
Second option is to get someone to make you a new one with just one big round opening.( Don't know if you've ever seen a Ron Wood exhaust, but the endcap should look similar to that). Also make sure to re-jet when you are done.
Some people say the power gain is comparable to getting a slip-on, one things for sure, it is definitely cheaper. You shouldn't have to take anything out of the muffler, just off the end cap.

I hate to jump on your post but I was about to ask the same question. However, I need to know what size main jet with the altered end cap with a STOCK carb. Elevation about 800 ft. so basically sea level. I have a 180,185 & 190 ordered with the stock being 165. Most people seem to have an altered or other carb on rather than stock, so if anyone has the info needed, I would appreciate any input.. Thx..Dean

Leave the perforated inner liner and packing. Just modify the endcap. Cut out the twin pipettes and replace with a nice big piece of 2.5" tailpipe from a muffler shop. If you can get it in stainless and get it welded in stainless it will polish up real nice. The stock end cap is stainless, not chrome plated.
.. I think it is a good idea to use a tailpipe about 8" long with only 3" sticking out, and the other 5" inside where the guts to the old endcap used to be. Cut some slots in the sides of it, it may help the sound level a little.
.. The stock exhaust with a modified end cap is one of the best mods, for the least dough.
Take the airfilter lid off, and with a no limiter CDI, that is the way a DS should be...
