Baja power

What's the best bang for the buck when it comes to getting more performance for the Baja DS? I spent the weekend riding a Predator, and I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I'm too old (42) and too big (6'2", 215 lbs) to enjoy a bike like that for very long. It's too compact to make standing up very easy for this old man, and the suspension just isn't near as plush as the Baja's. I've pretty much decided that the Baja is the bike for me. One area that the Predator does excel is power, It'll come out of the hole and accelerate much harder than a DS, (or a Raptor, for that matter), which brings me back to the question, what works on the DS? I don't want to get into the motor, I'm talking bolt-on performance. I understand the Baja model has a higher rev limit than the regular model, is there someone making a different box that raises the limit farther? What exhaust works best, I've read good things about Ron Woods' stuff, is there anything better? I've read many postings here regarding performance mods, but I haven't seen any definitive word and hard results to support claims of higher performance. Any advice would be appreciated.

as far as im concerned the big gun is junk. go with the mbrp pipe best bang for the buck. they are now on here backing there products which is more than you can say for big gun or any of those other lame *** pipe makers.

you might want to work on the gearing of your baja, that will help you a little. i like the 15-43 stock in the sand. i'm looking to gear up a little now with the mods. the cdi is a great starting place. then gearing.

of all the mods i've done to my ds the ron wood stage I kit was the best performance up grade from stock there is. the ignition box, carb,(graydon pipe) manifold, wow what a huge difference!! i could run with the fast guys and still putt-putt all day on unleaded gas just trail riding.

no you have too change the chain for 15-43, but i'm going to try the 15-42 on my wifes so i can get back to you on that so. you won't have to change chains right away. i've run with woods stage ones without all the mods, but i hear some work great and some don't. changing the gears and the cdi helped a lot then a k&n and a few jet changes helped a lot. the nice thing about woods is you can buy that system one piece at a time.

Thanks for the info guys, it's very helpful. I'll call Woods Racing tomorrow and pick their brains about the CDI. I think I'll go with a K&N filter as well. Is it OK to run without the airbox lid, or will I get too much sand in the airbox. Also, with minor exhaust and intake mods, will I need to re-jet? If so, any jetting recommendations would be appreciated. After reading some comments posted in the MBRP forum, it sound like a slip-on makes more sense than a full system, MBRP feels that the stock headpipe flows pretty well, and additional gains from a full system would be minimal with the other mods I'm planning. Anybody out there with a slip-on vs. a full system repacement? Impressions?
