I've got an MSD7AL on my bike. I wanted it for the multi step limiter, and it was not easy to set up. Electrical is far from my strong point, so I let my friends {engineering students} sort it out. They said it could be done with stock timing and a little enginuity, but since we were doing a new crank anyway, we had the keyway set to a different position to make things easier.

Other than the multi step limiter, I really don't see any advantage to the MSD unit. If you wanted to spend a lot of time on the dyno to program a special curve, you might gain 1 HP if your lucky. Personally, unless you want the steps, your time and money could be better spent elsewere. The Woods or Pami units have already come close enough to perfection for 95% of the motors out there. Just my opinion.

I could see the need for the hotter spark if the head only had one plug, but with two plugs in one cylinder, replacing the coils doesn't seem needed.

The adjustable timing will be one more adjustment that takes a while to dial in. I think Woods and Pami got it right anyway, unless your running unusual fuels. It took me about 8-10 hours on the dyno to get mine dialed in perfectly the first time, and then another couple of hours for each different fuel mix.

The two step limiter is helpfull, but each rider needs to decide if it's worth it to them. For me, the time and expence were high and the performance would not have been worth it if I were running gas of race fuel. It might be worth it if your running alchohol, but well worth it if running Nitro.

With the new msd you wont be able to retard the timing, its going to be just like all the others, it will just have different curves.

The way I understand it it's spose to be alot easier to adjust than the first models. I'm running 110 race fuel so I'm going to need it. The studder start will be great so I get consistant starts and fast starts off the line when drag racing. It will also give a better spark more consistantly than the stock box up to a higher rpm.

What I've been told you can adjust the timing advance. I cant remember how far but is alot farther than any of the other boxs. If I remeber right you can go both ways on the timeing like 15- or 15+ with the flip of a switch. I'm sure the way they do it is either with a dial or a set of switches like on a garage door opener.
