Default Added a second DS650 to the family!

I was able to cut a pretty sweet deal on a 2003 DS650 Baja for $6300 ($6900 OTD including 8.25% LA County sales tax etc.) and took it home Saturday afternoon.
I brough it out to Hungry Valley near Gorman, CA today for a quick spin and it was very fun to have two DSs romping around. I never realized how much difference the pipe & jet kit make over stock until now! (My 2001 DS feels A LOT stonger!) However I am going to do this Baja in grand bolt-on style! I think the first items are going to be a new Ron Wood CDI box and a new end cap. I figure while it is still in the warranty period I'd like to keep all the modifications really low key so that I don't void any part of the warranty. After than I think either a pipe kit or possibly a carburetor will be in order.

For anyone who has a 2000 or 2001 DS650 with rings on the inside fo your front rims; don't install them on your Baja. Due to changes in the A-Arms, the ring'ed tires will fit when the ATV isn't moving however when you start riding and compress the suspension while turning it will cause the ring to rub on the top of the A-Arm shearing off bits and pieces of aluminum. Luckily this didn't cause any real damage. I've got some pics of my new baby (the Baja!) on my website now as well.

Thanks guys!

Demon,

You've got it exactly! I didn't have sand fronts yet so I used those while at Glamis however I knew I was going to need a second set of paddles and when you made a joke about selling them I couldn't pass up the opportunity; especially not after you spoke so highly of their performance. Next dune trip I think I'll see just how much difference there is between Sand Skate 1 Competition Grooved (Super duper expensive paddles) and Sand Skate 2 'normal' priced paddle tires. I have a funny feeling the difference wont be as much as the price but we shall see. The tires looked to be in excellent shape as well. (I never knew what the difference was between running sand fronts & dirt fronts out in the sand but it is a nice thing to have them now!)

EagleCollector,

I don't think I'll be at Dumont this weekend as the 'family' group already made plans for a trip out to Dove Springs AKA: Red Rocks & Jawbone Canyon. Keep me apprised on your future romps & I'm sure to show up with a pair of DSs.

As for the link to the website, I can't make an actual link since the moderators decided for me that my currently non-profit site is a commercial site that is making money. (I haven't seen any of this money, I just see the money going out to pay for the domain name!) I can give you a hacked up guess to what the link is, from there you can send me a PM with your email and I can send you a direct link if needed.

to see the pictures of my 2001 DS650 & New 2003 DS650 Baja go to: www.ds650<dot>net/ds650pictures/

I have four pictures of them at Hungry Valley, two off of the trailer and two on. It is REALLY amazing the difference in power between a stock DS650 and just a pipe, filter & jet kit!

I'm hoping to give the Baja a good run this weekend so that I can take it to the dealer for the 10 hour service & get it back on the trail ASAP! Anyhow talk at ya later!
