Loki, you should have plenty of fun as long as the weather's ok. Oh and you don't have to ride 45mph, the wind can do that for you and more.
You don't have to have gears or paddles, they just make your ride nicer. All your quads will take on small dunes and trails and your DS will do pretty good on big dunes even with stock tires.

Big Honda and I will be there from 2/21-2/23 We are staying in the H-loop of Honeyman. Look for the 2 dodges with 2 yellow 400ex. I am planning on putting a whoopin' on Big Honda. After I smoke him on Comp Hill w/ the EX I am going to race him in the dodge...

As for a 15 tooth front sprocket is that hard to switch out?
They are cheap so buying one is not the problem just putting it on I think might be. Going from a stock 16 to a 15 gives me more power on the bottom end correct?

Marky, I work next to the paper mill and know all about the stink. I've even caused a little myself.
Loki, due the drag of sand plus the drag of paddle tires, the DS has trouble topping out in 5th gear on the flats. When I did the easy swap to 15t front, my top speed picked up and the engine is very responsive at cruising speed in 3rd gear.. It's like riding a bicycle in too high of a gear and downshifting one sprocket. The 15 makes up for going to 22 inch paddles, which are the way to go. 15/43 is the best and if you went with 14 in the front/ stock rear it would be the same alhough I don't know about wear on the chain sliders on the swingarm.

Loki....
You shouldn't have to worry about not having paddles. I went there last year for Spring Break. I was really worried about not being able to make it up the big dunes. I can tell you that I did not have 1 ounce of trouble making it up the dunes on my stocker. Just go there, and have fun!!!

loki there right the ds will do anything you want with out the paddles, but are you ready for this? we all know why you bought a ds (power) and you know all the other bikes are going to say i beat a ds if you can't hook up. the 43 takes a new chain 15 -42 doesn't and i have this on my wifes ds and it works well and in some cases maybe better. the change to 15 on the front is easy , seems it is a 30mm socket. the polaris dealer at florence should have a 15 sprocket if you don't get one first. well not matter what you choose to do you will have a blast everyone always does.

hey sandman are you still going over to the dunes on feb 14-16?? if so are you going to be at hors fall or where?? I will be over at hors fall heading down early the morning of the 15th and then camping that night and heading back up to McMinnville on the 16th in the afternoon depending on the weather. We will be out on the sand camping off that first road past the day use on the right. look for the red subaru legacy a red F350 and a black F150 we will be there as long as the weather holds out.
