Jetting intimidated me the first time also...very easy once you get rid of the stock screws as JMAC650 said...go to a good local hardware store and buy 3 4x10m stainless allens and 1 4x12 stainless allen (for the screw that holds the idle cable bracket). Use vice grips to get the stock bowl screws out. Do your mods and jet accordingly.

Ok so maybe I can handle jetting...another question - what is the dynojet kit for? Does it make jetting easier?

The dynojet kit comes with many jets and a needle. The comes with alot of jets for different mods and elevations. The instructions are very good as far as setting it up.

Will the CDi fit the 03 model , or do you have to strip the wires and join them without the connector boxes attached .

Marky Nark did a post about 03' CDI setup. He put up a pic of the "performance modification" that I sent to him. You can either strip the wires and not use the factory harness or modify one of the conectors to fit the other one. If you would like pics PM me with you email and ill send them to you.

Will bolt-on mods void the warranty? I bought the 3 year one and don't want to void it....
Razorcat, contact the extended warranty company and tell them you want to cancel the warranty and to send you a refund check, take the money and go buy a CDI, pipe and air filter. You will still have money left over, and your DS will come alive. The DS is bulletproof. It is extremely unlikely that you would use your warranty anyway, that's why they sell it. They're betting that your quad won't break, and your betting that it will, they are right. Even if your quad broke you would be way better off using your manual and fixing it yourself. Unless you have found the dealer that isn't a hack[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img] (perhaps there is such a thing).

If this is your first quad and you are afraid to screw it up I understand, we've all been there. It's not hard to work on and it can actually be fun[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Interesting advice KenDS, that might be a good idea. This is my first quad (that I have purchased on my own)....I do have insurance on it though. $250 deductible. Maybe a warranty and insurance is too much? Everyone please feel free to chime in on this one [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Purchased warranty on mine, they said i can bore and add nitros if i want, however if it is bored it must be done by a Bomber authorized servicer, warrantys will vary, read your paper work it will state what you can do. BR

Razorcat,

The DS650 really is about as close to 'bulletproof' as they come. I'm on my second DS650 with no extended warranty and I'm not worried. One of the most difficult things to do as far as basic repairs or maintenance of your DS650 will be removing the screws on the 'bowl' of the carburetor. I think they had superman install them - he's canadian, isn't he?

Another though to make the modification process cheaper and easier, start with the CDI box, and a modified end cap for the stock pipe. www.ondunes.com sells a modified end cap for about $25-30. If you got those two power modifications and then re-jetted your engine I think you'ed wind up with what feels like a whole new machine. My 2001 DS (with ONLY a pipe, K&N filter & jet kit) feels SOOOOO much more powerful than my 100% stock 2003 Baja. I plan to do a CDI/End Cap myself in the very near future. The only thing you might consider with the CDI box is to get a tethered kill switch that way if you fall off there is no worry of the throttle getting stuck etc. Many guys on here have the CDI box without a limit with no tethered kill switch and have never had a single problem as well.

The key to any engine modification though is re-jetting. It's not difficult and if you install the allen head screws it will literally take you five minutes or less to change the jetting on your ATV. If you install some stuff & have trouble getting it jetted right just come back here, give us all a heads up on what you've got, what you've tried and you'll get a dozen good replies.

Thanks for the input Blackhawk. I checked on that end cap and it's $99. $144 more and I could do the slip-on...and not decided if I should go with RWR CDI and killswitch or alba/graydon cause they have a rev limit. Any mods are a good ways down the road though, right now i'm just trying to learn.
You serious about taking 5 minutes to rejet? What all do you have to take off the quad in order to jet?
