Default modifications and warranty

Will bolt-on mods void the warranty? I bought the 3 year one and don't want to void it....but that rev limit is annoying and I was thinking about getting a new cdi box.
I'd like one with a rev limit...and after searching the forums I see that only 2 offer a limit - alba and graydon. I saw someone say that the engine would have to be modded in order to rev past 8300, is this true? Where to shop online for such parts? Sorry for all the questions, any comments, suggestions, snide remarks welcome

Depends on your warranty, but with most of them bolt ons are O.K. Just no internal mods.
Try the Ron Woods Racing CDI box. It seems to be the favorite on the forum. There website is www.rotax.net

Thats why I keep my factory CDI. When I take it for service I swap the factory CDI back in and then swap again when I get it back. If I have to take it in again now that I have the MBRP exhaust I will do the same thing for that.

Aha! I just might have to be a little sneaky
As far as the CDI goes:will it be ok if this is the only mod done to my 03 ds? If I get one, is it true that I will need to mod the engine to rev past 8300? If that is the case, there isn't much point to getting a new cdi...

When I go to the RWR website, I can't seem to find the CDI box listed anywhere...

Pull the page down and click on DS650. On the bottom half of that page is a list of all the parts and the prices. The CDI is $298.

No you don't have to mod the engine for the cdi to work. The purpose of the RWR CDI is to get rid of the 7700 rpm rev limit. Your bike can make power stock past that, plus the CDI advances the timing.

I would suggest a pipe and filter afterwards though.

Thanks, I found it

Lots of people say a pipe & filter is an easy upgrade, but I'm scared of the whole jetting thing....is it hard to do? I mean I have the ds650 maintenance manual and the diagram of the carb looks like it has 786,345 parts

Jetting is really easy. The hardest part is getting the bowl screws off. Once you get them off you should change the to stainless allen head screws. They are 4mm.
