Default Any good come from big bore kits?

DS has been in the shop for almost half a year!
Work is slow and new problems always arising.

It turns out I need a new cylinder and piston. My old cylinder can't be bored and the piston is shot. My dealer is saying that they can replace it with stock ones for $602

They also mentioned getting a "big-bore kit" instead of the stocker. Do you think it would be worth it?
Dealer didn't give me specs on kit but i'm assumin its a 703? What would you get from a dealer?

not much there are lots of stories on here of bad dealer info, call ron woods, or gary at tvi, or pami, i think even samcoe does a bore and piston, it makes it a 680-690 i think it takes a stroke to 703

Ask them why you can't bore that cylinder out. If they say because it is Nikasil they are full of crap! They can punch that sucker out up to .060 over if you want. It can be re-Nikasiled for anywhere from $75.00 to $150.00. I still can't figure out why everybody blows there money on a 1000.00 cylinder when you can just punch it out yourself for a $100.00! Good luck and let us know what you can figure out.

Be careful when you re-sleeve the DS it takes extra machine work or your head gasket will leak.

Bore and re-Nyk your cylinder to 102mm. Team Pami has a 102mm piston for this. If you decide to stroke it, you can get the stroke 102mm piston to get you a 703. Without the stroke you will be a 680. If you need a new cylinder let me know, I have one collecting dust, ready for a bore.

Team Pami charges 340 Euro (with exchange) for the bore and re-Nyk of the cylinder. Add 15% teriff , 1.07 (exchange rate) and shipping both ways and you are probably around $500 (with exchange). The piston will run you $355 (+ +) or about $450 delivered.

Make sure you get the new heavy duty had bolts (less stretching) for about $70.

You'll need gaskets too - $100 and the sealant for the gaskets.

Team Pami

Gottfried can usually turn these around very quickly. You should e-mail him to see if you want to go with a 703 or a 680.

For you, I don't suggest Sam Coe. Majorecho has done a good job with his Sam Coe but, he is doing the work himself and is extremely patient and detail oriented. This is not the kind of kit you want a dealer putting together. JMO! Sam Coe does do a 103mm bore (690 w/o the stroke).

One of the biggest issues with bore on these is making sure whoever you go with has experience sealing the head (head gasket.)

Good luck.

It would be great to get a 102mm piston and bore it out IF it will stay under $600

My ds was scheduled to be assembled and done on Friday. The dealer had to confirm their work on the engine with Bombardier before letting it go. Bombardier asked them to do a final test on the engine before delivery. Dealer found out on the test that the bottom of my cylinder was egg-shaped!

From how the dealer was talking it didn't sound like it could be bored and didn't sound too sure of himself for the big bore kits.
He said I could drive it now but would be toast in about 100 hours.

If there is any way to get a larger cylinder and/or piston for it under 600 let me know
