Tire choice......
#1
I'm trying to decide on a replacement tire for the rear of my DS. From searches, the Maxxis Razor, and the ITP Holeshots seem my best choices. I'm looking for the best all-around tire that does'nt break my piggybank(The performance mods have already done that!). I have basically a STG 1 setup w/ a 15T front sprocket. The stk Dominators don't hook up at all, even in the grass. I know that there are some new designs for the Razr(Razr 2) as well as the Holeshots, but are they worth the xtra dough? Has anyone tried them? How do they compare to what they replace? Straight line traction is what i really want, though i imagine that any of them will do better than the Dom's in the turns. I want to run 22", for the added height on trails. I already have a 14T front sprocket to slap on when i change tires to compensate for the taller gearing. Any suggestions???

Best combination of performance and price would be the Razors, they slide well but hook up well in a straight line, they are light, & best of all they are cheap! Holeshot XCT's will hook up better all around but are considerably more expensive. Razors are far superior to the stock Kendas.

Have you thought about the Pure Sport Bandit XC? They have great traction, they are 6 ply, and don't wear anywhere near as fast as the ITP Holeshots. I have had both tires and if you ride alot of trails and wooded areas they seem to be the best choice for traction and longevity. If you ride more track than trails I would then go with the ITP Holeshots.

I've got the Pure Sport Bandits 22"XC rears and 23" XCR fronts. I don't have a single bad thing to say about them. They hook up like crazy and the lugs are much bigger than they look in the pics. They wear good and have been the perfect set of tires for me. That is all I will use from here on out.

The Holeshot rears loose their edges rather quickly if you ride on hardpack or rocky terrain.
If you ride in the loamy stuff, you're good to go.
