milky oil

I have had my DS650 for about 6 months and i had milky oil twice now.I brought it back to the dealer and he said that it is nothing.I ride in real wet spots and am wondering if water is getting in the oil some how or is there a bigger problem.I am very worried about this.Should i be?Does anyone else have this problem?Is there away to fix my problem if there is one?HELP

Well frist you must discover if were talking about water or aireation which is comon in some ds's and if it's water then you need to address the problen if its aireation then no problem!! dose your oil clear up if you let it set awhile or dose it stay milky if it clears up then its aireation if it stay's milky then its water you could do a radiator test or a cooling system test !! to test for aireation look down your oil tank when its not running see if your oil milky after its set all night??? i run alcahol so this is something ive grown acoustome to looking for oh well let us know the out come[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

If its coolant that is getting into the oil the level in your overflow bottle will go down after a ride
Here is what you do to test...
Before you ride, while the engine is still cold mark the level on the bottle. make sure the quad is sitting level.
Ride it like normal then let it sit over night. If the coolant level dropped and your oil is milky take it back to your dealer and demand he fix it.

I bought my used 2001 DS in January. Shortly after riding a few times in wet conditions I noticed water in my oil. So I changed the oil filter and oil. Took it out again and noticed nothing after riding and thought problem gone!. Well after the 2nd time riding there was the water in the oil again. So I had gone back to the dealer to get it pressure checked to see if it was the head gasket. Well they were unwilling to service help or anything with out $$$.$$ because it was not one of the brands that they sell. (I will not go back there again!!!)
Anyhow enough of what I had to deal with. I had the water pump seals and impeller shaft replaced the cost of the parts less than $25.00.
The service guy said that the seals were kind of a bad design. Because the impeller shaft turns inside the seals and the seals are plastic.
I also had wear from the impeller on the inside of the water pump cover. Check there for any wear.

the seals are industry standard, don't know why people talk down about the design
my seals failed because grit and sand got up the weephole between the two seals, so I installed a tiny hose barb here with 4" of 1/4 clear tubing on it in a loop. nothing can get in, and the seals I installed have outlasted the stockers so far.

AHHHH! Get it fixed!! Thats the reason my 'shee is down... The water pump seized, blew the head gasket leaked coolant into the oil and overheated damaging the crank, pistons and cylinders!! A lot of damage can happen in a short time so don't just overlook a problem...if that dealer wont fix it find another and if all else fails contact bombardier direct and demand a factory rep out there.....

macmc443 is my riding buddy, so i can tell you the water isn't that deep, just alot of puddles. The deepest we have to go through is just above the tires, but we do kick up alot of mud and water at speed... Not to speak for him, but he did say that his DS was running a little rough and stalling from time to time. Not sure if that helps or not. By the way, I'm very impressed with the DS...(I ride Suzuki) tons of power and gotta love the suspension.

I would suspect the water pump seals. The test that JSsDS recommended may not work, it didn't with mine. When the water pump seals stop sealing the cooling system no longer holds pressure, without pressure holding capabilility there is also a lack of vacuum holding ability, and without vacuum as the system cools there will be no transfer of coolant from the reservoir to the radiator. The easiest test is to put a pressure tester on the system and see if it holds pressure, virtually all repair shops have this tester.
