Difference in DS650's between model years?
#1
Since I'm looking into getting a DS, I figured I would see if any of the years have quirks or problems, or if there were improvements in some years worth looking at. 2000's obviously are the cheapest, but were there any problems with them? Thanks.

00- has a smaller oil filter, and the oil doesn't bleed itself or something along those lines.
the arms are a topic for some people, the fan isn't rubber mounted, the chain roller sucked $23 fix, the kenda tires were ****, as in slick as.
01- oil filter larger, same a-arms , fan same, oil bleed thing changed, other than that same i think.
02 and on they changed tires , and a-arms and chain roller basically all the little things.
all the problems are little things the fan can be a issue but a lot of us don't run one anymore.

I'm assuming it's a screw on filter... Is there a bigger filter that fits the same threads? So really there is nothing major, spend a night in the garage and fix most of the issues with the '00 year right?
How reliable are the quads? Transmission and the motor run long and hard?

the ds motor and tranny are awsome, but yes my chain roller and fan both SH*T the bed haha, so i put in a skate board wheel with good berings and the right size bolt, and it works awsome. next time the fan goes im just gonna leave it out and run engine ice

ive changed my oil and oil filter lots of times, and there is no problem at all i think the yellow ds are the best looking ds. they should make them in yellow again.

OK but by 'bleeding' he was trying to say that when you drop the oil, there is still a fair amount of old oil left which is hard to get out, or what? I guess I'm confused by what he meant by 'bleeding'. Also, does the bike run OK without the aid of the fan, or does it get too hot at times?

no it has something to do if you flip your quad upside down that the oil pump loses prime or something, i guess the oil light comes on to let you know, i'm not the best at the oil on the 00 mine is the 01 and not a issue.
