Default Oil Filter

I just called the guy who orders my parts and told him I need some Oil filters.. He asked what length it is???? Said there were 2 different ones used in the 2000 DS650's.. I didn't know that was the case if it's true.. But anyway, Im sitting at work and don't have a chance to run home to measure my filter.. Does anybody know which one I need for a 2000 DS650?
Better yet, the last one I had I beleive was a Champion oil filter.. Does anybody have a part number?
Thanks,
Rog

Mr. bigR, I have a 2001 ds and was told by dealer that bomb had changed the length of the oil filter during the 2001 year model. The original length was I believe 1 5/8 inches and the newer 2 1/2 inches. My particular 2001 model required the smaller of the two. I would suspect you would also need this one ,also? I inadvertently picked up the wrong one last oil change.

Big R, I switched to the longer one for my 2000 DS, all you have to do is get the cover for a newer model to make the longer one work.. I have a shorter one I will send you if you pay shipping..

The Champion # RB-338

bOMB # P711256186

These are the #'s for the shorter one.

Thanks for the quick response guys. You saved me a trip home on my lunch hour to pull out the filter. I had never had anybody question me when ordering oil filters before. I didnt know that the oil filter was something that had been changed.. I guess ya learn something new everyday....

Is there an advantage to running the longer oil filter? That might be something I look into.... Thanks again..

I think it is just more filter coverage....When my motor got sent back, it did not have the cover on it so I just bought a new cover to fit the longer filter, also the dealers will most likely have the longer filters on the shelf. I think the cost for the longer cover is like $35.
