you know, what's funny about the bomb market. Most of the DS owners have money lying around just for aftermarket mods. By definition DS owners are willing to spend the extra buck to get quality. Most of us are Dieing for some cool **** to stick on our bikes. The aftermarket manufacturers are starting to come around. Hell I've even considered starting something up to capitalize on this neglected market segment. Time will tell.

It's a beast. It has some major torque. Like my DS, it could use a diet, but for desert riding, it's hard to beat. Stock it was pretty plugged up (california model, i'm not sure if they are like that everywhere), but it's easy enough to fix. just remove a couple rubber plugs in the air box, rejet and modify the endcap and it's a whole new machine. Once I got the PCT4 slip-on on it, it really opened up. I can't wait to get a cam and a high comp piston in it. It's no motocross bike, it's big, it's heavy, but it is a smooth ride. If you are over 210 lbs, immediatly take it down to a suspension shop and get the forks and shocks resprung and revalved. I weigh about 250, and it only took a 4' drop to completely bottom out before I got the suspension done. Now it's twice as smooth, it's a pretty plush ride. My brother in law laughs at me when I take it to the track. (as he should) But out in the desert, I smoke his CR250 so bad it's embarassing.

with all that said, If your not as big as me, I would wait and see if honda actually comes out with the CRF450X. They say it's supposed to be released early next year. It supposedly is a enduro model of the CRF450R with electric start, wide ratio tranny, larger radiator, and headlight with only a 10lbs weight gain over the CRF450R.
