I'm looking to surprise my b/f with a new atv, i've looked at honda, polaris, suzuki. i haven't seen any chinese atv. none of the dealers been to have them, but to me they all look the same, do the chinese make a good atv? help me decide which ones to buy, we'll be riding on mountains trails, what i need to know what size, what brand and why

need help---Hey Jane, I am an old Harley Davidson rider & I bought a Tornado 200 for my girl & a Hurricane 250 for me from Motorxtremes. Mike was very helpful & I received my quads in good shape. The assembly was easy & they started right up. For Chinese brands, I am pleased with these 2 quads. The Tornado 200 is fast enough & for $800, a great deal.

here's the best advise you'll get all day, DON'T BUY A CHINESE ATV, they are all P.O.S. spend some time and do so research here and you'll see what i'm talking about. also you'd already spended $80000-90000 on your truck and trailer why would you want to embarrass yourself riding chinese crap, buy a name brand

 

Not that long ago, Japanese was crap. Harley Davidson rules.

 

in the 70's HD was too, when afm owned them, you would go into a show room and they had oil drip pans unerneath each bike, but they were able to turn things around. . i don't recall the japenese ever importing a poor quality m/c or atc, they did import some dangerous ones like honda and yamaha 3 wheelers, and the toys in the fifty's were junk, but today if it's japanese is a high quality item. maybe in the next 10 years the chinese will have a better product, but not today.

 

i agree with bill if i had of known of all this trubble im haveing i wouldnt have bought a chinnese atv, there good for the first mounth then things fall apart, i would go with a honda 400ex.... but i dont own one but i ride with a kid who does

I own both brands. Currently, my son has a Kazuma 50 and I have a Honda TRX250EX. All we do is trail riding. What you are going to find is that the Chinese brand ATV's are cheaper in initial cost and made cheaper. If your b/f is OK with having to wrench on his ATV once in a while, and you can't afford the name brand ATV, than go with a Jet Moto. In my opinion, they are the best of the off brand ATV's. If you can afford it and want worry free riding and reliability, go with one of the name brands like Honda, Polaris or Suzuki. I can tell you from experience that I have had to wrench on my sons Kazuma many times, but it's OK with me, because I have the ability and know how and I only paid $500.00 for it brand new. So, I expected that I would have to perform more work on it. I will say this though, my sons next quad will be a Honda or Polaris.

Mine works just fine for trails but I agree that for pits and dune climbing there would be loss of power.

Here is what I don't understand, if you all hate these Chinese ATV's so much then why are you hanging out in these forums???? I might say that some of you are hypocrites in the sense that you give some good advice in working upgrades and user fixes to common and previous (very dated) problems found in these Chinese ATVs (which is likely the case with any brand of ATV).

I concur with "brca" if you are somewhat savvy in working on mechanical things then yes these Chinese brand ATVs are fine. Anything mechanical can break regardless of brand!

For those new to the ATV world what does it hurt in buying a Chinese ATV to start for extremely lower cost to feel out what type you like and you're riding style. Then perhaps later look at what you desire and upgrade.

Got my Dingo 150 and I am more then happy with it for now. I think I may even look at getting a Jetmoto 250 Sport next spring. Wow, look at that I can get 2 ATVs for the price of one higher (way over retail mark-up) brand from my local dealer.

 

sorry i was kind of in a hurry and didn't pay much atenchion but what im talking about with the gearing was that u only use 1 gear most of the time.... which i don't really like because then you are tether in to low of a gear or to high of a gear, but thats just my opinion, but its better when you change the front sprocket... and for the pit riding thing is i ride in big pits and need the power, but i just improvise with a sprocket change, re-jetting and momentum, just to add if hes going to be doing any jumping to make sure the tire pressure is right because if its not then u will blow out shocks like crazy... i learned that the hard way, now i can jump 3-4 feet high in 2nd gear, so i do have to say they are good jumping machines but you have to get the hang of it... but to get to the point you have to keep it in running condition, and learn to ignore sertine sounds it makes, and if you get it from raceway you get a 1 year warntey.
