Hi,
I'm new to the forum and am looking to buy a chinese atv. I can't afford name brand. I want something my son and i can both ride. I was looking at ANAM and motorxtreme. I'm 5'4" and 138lbs. and my son is 90lbs. So should I start out with a 150cc or go for a 200cc. Any help will be apprecciated.

 

Never owned a Chinese bike but as the saying goes, "size matters". I would think in bikes of those cc's you would want to get as big a one as you can afford. I looked on one of the websites and the larger ones have a real hi top end on them which would make me wonder how they come out of the hole. Do some searches on these forums and read up on them. The one common thread that I have read is that if you are handy with a wrench, the Chinese bikes are a good buy. I can't imagine them being bad as it is 2007 and the technology is here.

I think you are going to be better off with a 150 if you are sharing the quad. I just completed my research with a lot of help from friends here and bought a 150 Jetmoto for my 90lb 12 yr old son and a 200 manual for myself.

If I had to choose one that we would share it would be the 150, no doubts. First, the 200 is a manual shift, much harder for a young new rider to control the quad. The automatic makes it much easier and safer for the young rider to concentrate on navigating and safely controlling the quad, rather than trying to just get the right amount of power to the wheels at the right time. On smooth flats no problem but they will get into BIG trouble when trying to get a stalled manual quad going on a slippery surface on an off angle slope that they got stuck due to their inexperience. It will happen.

There are many 150 that nearly all seem to have automatics. The 200 size seems to be more manuals and no full automatics, maybe a few semi-autos.

Look at Jetmoto and BMS (Boreem) as they are (to me) the most solid mfg/importers here in the US. They may cost a few bucks more but still way less than the majors and you have the best chance for long term support and parts.

first thing is do your reseach on chinese atv's, make sure this is what you want to get into and you are able to handle all the mechanical issures yourself, you have all the tools and access to a welder, if you still decide on chinese crap then look at hi birds on e-bay, you can buy a 200 with the double a arms for $900 shipped, or $850 with the single a arm, plus if you call them instead of ordering off of e-bay they knock off another $50,
but before buying a chinese read everything here and the kids and other forum

 

Can you explain the difference between a single a arm and a dual a arm.

You will see the difference: single a-arm has just one arm going to the lower outside wheel for support; dual a-arms have both top and bottom arms that support the wheel. Of course duals are better.

As bill2099 states - do you research. For example , disc or drum brakes?, length and type of warranty? look at the swing arm design? look at quality of welds, look at pegs: plastic, rubber, or metal?. There are quite a number of parts that are coming from the same oem suppliers but there are many things that set them apart as well.

One of the most important items to research is who is the actual mfg and US distributor and how well established do you feel they are. Will they be there a few years from now providing support, services, and parts?

Lastly - as Bill points out - if you are not fully prepared to do a fair amount of wrenching on the Chinese units, do NOT go down this path. You will be very disappointed and spend a lot more time unable to ride. If you can and are willing to wrench on them, it is basically sweat equity and can be a much cheaper way to get started and "pay as you go".

Doing it on the "cheap" is great if you go in fully informed. Remember, there is a lot more than just the cost of the ATV. You have to get them to/from the riding site. Do you have a vehicle up for the job? Do you have a trailer? Do you have safety equipment: helmet, boots, goggles, etc.? It all adds up pretty quickly and most of this is upfront cost. You can't wait a few paychecks until you buy the safety equipment. Good luck.

outgrown it. As for hauling, I have a beater Chevy S-10.

I just recently bought my first atv it is a used 1994 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 elect.start and reverse the only 2 things and that it is a known name is why I bought it. and the price was 650.00

and runs great might just keep checking local papers and craigslist on the net
there are some good deals to be had

First I would like to start off by saying I think we are some what friends. I always respect you comments and have always paid attention to any comments you may have posted to try to improve things. I would also like to say that I hope this post does not go down the wrong road. But I must say after sitting back for a few months and just watching you post tons of negative comments about the Chinese ATV market I feel that you are not giving me a fare shake. 1st as you know and most people out there know my business is my life, 7 days a week blahh blahhh I dont want to get into all my hours. I happened to feel that we and Jetmoto have really taken things to another level. Yes I agree 1000% that there is still some small problems in certain areas but as soon as there is a problem with one of our units Jetmoto is right on the phone with the factory getting things adjusted, fixed or changed. In your last post you have stated to someone that they better have wielders and all other kind of things if they buy a Chinese ATV.

From my view Raceway ATV, Jetmoto and a nice amount of dealers out there have been selling a lot of these units for some time now. I can assure you as I answer my business lines all day long that no one yet has called me to wield anything! I think that you talk very strong about a bad experience that you have had with Sunl products. This is a company that sells the worst products you can ever buy. I feel that you are not giving us a fair chance in a market that we have brought to a much higher level for the price. Also our parts Dept. is now bigger then ever. We have had made changes to the Jetmoto products 4 times in one year and 2008 will be even better. I dont want to get into a thousand things to tell you why I believe what I do... BUT I have had dealing with just about every brand out there in the Chinese ATV market and I dont feel we should be in the same post as "Say No To Chinese Junk" as you like to put it. I just feel with everything we try to do we should deserve a little more consecration then this.

Listen its a free world you can post right back to this that they are still junk its your world but without you even owning a Jetmoto or even a Kazuma product I think it is hard for you to say. Also in your post I see that you have recommend a hi Bird ATV. This happens to be a company that never supports there bikes and we sell parts for this ATV all the time. So again I hope you do not take this down the wrong road but reading the post and recommend an ATV that is not a good one just made me have to write. I know you can read some post on the forum about a few small problems with any ATV. Looking in every section you will find bad things about Honda, and we all know Honda makes a great ATV but things happen! For the amount of Jetmoto ATVs sold to the amount of complaints we are way ahead of the game.

There are 100's of customers out there that dont know about ATV Connection and are more then happy with any of the ATVs I have sold them. We just cant go by the same hand full of people that post every time there ATV makes a nose. Don't get me wrong its helpful and we try to accommodate everyone but the truth is the bikes/ATVs we sell are holing up very well!

P.S I have not had to use the wielder in the shop for over 2 years! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

Thanks for your post. I joined this forum to be an informed consumer and to find reputable dealers. My intent is to buy a chinese brand ATV asit is the most affordable for our circumstances. We live very close to The PITS in Wellsville
and to all that have been this way, know our economy has alot to be desired.
So safety and affordabilityis my concern. As for name brand ATV's I just don't have that kind of money. Thanks for your input. Hope you and Bill don't Yell
