Default Used Redcat MPX-110 with some issues

Hey everyone, just joined but have been lurking for a week or so. I just picked up a used Redcat MPX-110 for my daughter pretty cheap. The guy said the carb was junk and it needs a battery.

So I picked it up in the pouring rain and brought it home. Finally got a chance to look closer at it yesterday.

1. First, the carburetor he handed me was a Keihen Japanese carb. NOT the original I assume. Any suggestions on the carb I should get for this thing?

2. It rolls perfectly fine forward (which is how I got it on the trailer). When I went to take it off the trailer it wouldn't roll in reverse without turning the engine over. What's the deal here?

3. Does this have reverse? I see a blue light on the handlebars that says R, but I can't figure out how it goes in reverse, have looked it all over.

HELP! My daughter is super excited to ride it so I want to get wrenching on it and fixed up asap.

PS - everything else checks out pretty good, brakes work great, tires are good, etc etc. Oh, it needs a chain adjuster looks like the plastic roller broke off this one.

I had a Redcat mpx90 I believe. Sold it last year. His didn't have a reverse, but not saying yours doesn't. Nothing wrong with using that Keihin as long as it fits, might need to adjust the jetting. Or go on ebay and find a cheap chinese one for about $15.

Thanks for the reply, I thought about using the carb I have but it's pitted and rebuilding that carb is probably more expensive than picking up a new one.

Anyone know why this thing doesn't roll in reverse without turning over the engine....doesn't seem right to me but I've never had a Chinese atv before.

You could open the CVT cover and that will probably tell you why it's grabbing. Look on youtube, plenty of videos on how they work.

It's not a CVT, it's a 3 or 4 speed I believe. Hope that doesn't mean the transmission is junk.

Does it have a clutch? If so, inspect it.

It's a semi-auto so it must have some type of clutch, I've never had a semi-auto open before. I'll have to check it out. Seems odd that it would roll forward but not backwards. Starting to get a sinking feeling that I bought something that needs a rebuild

Also, the gear box has to have some sort of fluid. Drain it and inspect.
